Acts Of Mercy I
‘For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home’ Matt.25:35.
Jesus was tempted in every way but without sin. There is no temptation that you are going through right now that Jesus has not experienced in one form or the other. When I read this scripture a long time ago, I said to myself that it is not possible because I did not think Jesus would have experienced what I was experiencing. But the truth is that if the Bible says that Jesus was tempted in every way then He was tempted in everyway. Jesus was 100 percent man and He was tempted with pride, he was tempted to steal, he was tempted to fight, he was tempted to lie, he was tempted to act contrary to the Word. Unfortunately even though God came to us and shared in our infirmities, we still want to put Him at a distance. Meanwhile Jesus felt every inch of what we feel. Jesus knew what it was to cry and weep like a baby. And the Bible says because he went through it all He is able to understand. Jesus went through it all without sinning so He is saying to you and I today, you will make it through because He has been there too. Jesus knows what you are going through.
‘For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’ “Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’ Matt.25:35-40. These are the acts of mercy but I believe for us as children of God, this is just a starting point. You will have an opportunity to show mercy even beginning from today and it is an opportunity to be blessed. You will also have a lot of opportunities to be merciless so you have to choose. But remember blessed are the merciful.
Prayer: Father, help me to bear fruits in the acts of mercy. Grace me to be merciful in every situation, in Jesus Name.
