Am I?

“But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God” Luke 9:62

In scripture, Jesus said some really hard things unapologetically. “But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God” Luke 9:62. That is really hard to say to someone who has pledged to follow you. The man was just asking for permission to say farewell to his parents. But Jesus says if you put your hand on the plough and look back then you are not fit for. Note that He didn’t say if you put your hand on the plough and then abandon it and turn back. He said the person’s hand is still on the plough but he or she looks back, that person is not fit for the Kingdom of God. Isn’t that harsh? You haven’t left the plough, your hand is still on the plough but Jesus says such a person is not fit for the kingdom. You have to be totally sold out.

The third question you have to wrestle with is am I accountable? We were created for community. You were born into a family – you can only be fulfilled in a family. Every Christian should belong to a church family. A Christian that is not a member of a church family is an orphan – a spiritual orphan and that is not what God wants for you. Why is accountability so powerful? “Two people are better than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble” Eccl.4:9-10. May you not be alone in the time of your need! You cannot afford to be an orphan; you have to be planted in a church family. “A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken” Eccl.4:12. The only reason the enemy wants to take you out to be a lone ranger is so you can be easily attacked. I say to single ladies never marry a man that is not accountable to anybody. Don’t do it otherwise you are asking for trouble. Regardless of how much you love him, if he is not accountable to anybody then you need to pray because that is asking for trouble. The people that have been down that road will tell you. And if you are already married to someone like that then pray that God will help him because accountability will change your life. Pray for God to help him because if he is not accountable he cannot fulfill his potential. That is how things are set up; so don’t marry him if he is not accountable.

Prayer: Father, I pray that as I wrestle with these questions, Your Spirit and Your Word will shape my direction and choices, in Jesus Name.
