Just Stay There
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened’ Luke 11:9-10 [NIV]
There is so much to learn from the Lord’s Prayer. The third thing is the instruction that Jesus gave, “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you’. The word “ask” is in the present continuous in the original. It means ask and keep on asking. That is all it means. Some people say you pray once and if you pray again about the same issue, it means you don’t have faith. I smile because I actually was Read the rest of this entry
Trustworthy Father
‘But even after all he did, you refused to trust the Lord your God, who goes before you looking for the best places to camp, guiding you with a pillar of fire by night and a pillar of cloud by day’ Deut.1:32-33.
Does God say no to some of the life defining questions we ask? Yes! However you must make it a habit to ask the Father because He alone knows the end from the beginning. On the subject of marriage, ninety nine percent of the time you should get married. It is only like one percent of the time that God will say no. And for that one percent, marriage is not in God’s plan for their life. So for every one Read the rest of this entry
As A Father
“Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11:11-13 [NIV].
Secondly, Jesus wants us to approach God as a father. ‘…how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” God is saying not only will I answer but we can be sure of the quality of His answer. As a parent, will you give your child a snake instead of the fish he asked you for? It will not even cross Read the rest of this entry
As A Friend
‘So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.’ Heb.4:16.
In Luke 11:1-11, Jesus teaches us how to approach God in prayer. Firstly, you approach God as a friend. Approach God as a friend you can run to when you are in need or when you have an emergency. ‘Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say’ Luke 11:5[NIV]. Approach God as a friend. If you are struggling with this right now or you cannot really say Read the rest of this entry
Prayer
‘And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne’ And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand’ Rev.8:4 [KJV].
God perceives our prayers as incense before Him. Erroneously some people think that means we should burn incense before God. Not at all! Your prayers ascend to God as a sweet smelling savor of incense before the throne of God and that is what the altar of incense represents. Over the next few days we will be looking at prayer and learning how to pray from none other than Jesus Himself. Read the rest of this entry
Not Without Gratitude
‘Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation’ Ps.100:4-5
The third thing you need to know about gratitude is you cannot be all you are made to be without being grateful. In other words, you cannot fulfill your destiny if you are not grateful. Gratitude is very important because it is your environment that determines what grows and what dies in you. If you put a grain of corn on top of your fridge and you check years after, it will still be a grain of corn. But if you put that same grain of corn in fertile Read the rest of this entry
Verbalize Gratitude
‘Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy’ Ps.100:1-2.
The second thing we need to know about gratitude is that silent gratitude is of no value to anybody. In fact, silent gratitude is ingratitude. Verbalize your gratitude. A mother needed to teach her son a vital lesson in gratitude. After every meal she would say to him, “You have not said thank you”. The mother wanted her son to always say “Thank you” when he eats so that he doesn’t take things for granted. And the boy would say, “Why Read the rest of this entry
Gratitude Equals Peace
‘And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful’ Col.3:15
The first thing we need to know about gratitude is that you cannot be peaceful if you are not grateful. If you find out that there is turmoil in your heart. If you find out that there are consistent storms in your life, then check your gratitude because worry and gratitude don’t live together. Worry and gratitude cannot live together; it is Read the rest of this entry
Acknowledge IV
‘For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation’ Ps.100:5
The fourth thing that you and I must acknowledge is that He is good. This is very profound. You can own something and be mean to that thing. But God is not mean. God is good. Say it out loud – God is good all the time. The Lord is good. So you and I can approach God knowing that we are approaching a good God. We can come to God knowing that we are coming into the presence of a good God that made us and owns us, and He is God. Read the rest of this entry
Acknowledge III
‘Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture’ Ps.100:3
Secondly, acknowledge that He made us. He made us in His own image, after His likeness. Which means that you can’t be ugly especially because God’s works are so beautiful. The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament shows forth His handiwork. And they are masterpieces, He made you, you’re a masterpiece. I know that some people are struggling with receiving this. Let me share an experience with you. I was driving one day Read the rest of this entry
