More Than Money

Ps.37:25 “I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread.” [NIV, with emphasis]

The futurist magazine did an extensive survey and discovered that the number one fear of the future is financial fear. The research also revealed that there is no amount you can make or save that cannot be lost. Is that not scary? The fear of a financial future is major for a lot of people. So how can we banish financial fear? How can we be free from financial worries in a world that is highly financial and how do we live without financial fears or financial worries? There is hardly anything you will do these days without spending some Read the rest of this entry

Ownership

Matt.6:24 No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money” (mammon) [with emphasis].

Jeff had to work late again because the boss did not send in the weekly report on time and everyone got a copy by morning. So that night alone in the office, he put the copier to work. Strangely, a single sheet printed with a big black circle in the middle was the only thing that printed. While probing, Jeff discovered that it was something mysterious. When placed over any door, Jeff’s hand could go through the black circle as though the doors did not exist.

Choose Who

Matt.6:24 No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money” (mammon) [with emphasis].

The third thing Jesus said about money is that, how you relate with money shows the God that you serve. The word mammon from today’s Scripture reference means the spirit of material possessions. The story is told of a family consisting of the couple and their two children.  They had a couch; this couch was the symbol of the family’s bond. When the man lies on the couch, his wife joins him and the children join in, jumping all over the parents and the couch. When the man comes back home from work and Read the rest of this entry

How It Works

Luke 6:38 “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” [with emphasis]

Amazingly, Jesus spoke more about money than He spoke about love. The first time I heard this statement, it did not sit well with me. I had to do my own research and I discovered that the statement was true. Jesus spoke more about money than He spoke about faith, than He spoke about holiness, than He spoke about Heaven and earth combined. It is safe to say that this thing called money must be really important. I think one of the reasons money is so important is because of the things Jesus says. For example Jesus says in Matt.6:21Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be...” Your cheque book stubs can tell me the direction Read the rest of this entry

Understanding Stewardship

“God is ready to overwhelm you with more blessings than you could ever imagine so that you’ll always be taken care of in every way and you’ll have more than enough to share” 2Cor.9:8 [VOICE].

I want you to just stop and just receive it. God is ready to overwhelm you! He is ready to overwhelm us with more blessings than we could ever imagine for two reasons. The first reason is so that He will take care of your every need. Yes, God cares about your every need and He wants you to be taken care of in every way. But the problem with many of us is that after God has supplied all our Read the rest of this entry

Test of Trust II

“God is ready to overwhelm you with more blessings than you could ever imagine so that you’ll always be taken care of in every way and you’ll have more than enough to share” 2Cor.9:8 [VOICE]

The third thing you need to know about tithing is giving a tithe to something or someone other than God is robbing God. God said it Himself [Please read Mal.3:8-10]. Giving your tithe to a motherless babies home is not tithing. It is a free will giving which you and I should do as Christians because the Lord expects us to take care of the poor. But your tithe is your first ten Read the rest of this entry

Test of Trust I

Should people cheat God? Yet you have cheated me! “But you ask, ‘What do you mean? When did we ever cheat you? “You have cheated me of the tithes and offerings due to me” Mal.3:8

Everything we own is a test of our trust. It was that trust that the enemy was attacking with Adam and Eve. “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evilGen.3:5. God had told Adam and Eve do not eat of this fruit. The same way growing up a lot of us grew up to revere “daddy’s chair” in our own homes as well Read the rest of this entry

Test of Devotion

Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other” Deut.4:39 [NIV]

Everything we own is a test of our devotion. And a key thing to devotion is recognizing God as Source and Sovereign. If you are struggling to have consistent devotion with God, check, does your heart really recognize God as your Source and as Sovereign? The key to devotion is every time you go before God, every time you bow before Him, you worship Him, you pray, you have your Read the rest of this entry

Test of Affection

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” Luke 12:34

It is important to mention that money as we have referenced in days past is symbolic of everything we own. And by everything we own we mean our treasure, our time, and our talent [Everything we own = Treasure + Time + Talent]. However, our focus is going to be on treasure because we use our time and talent to get treasure. Everything we own is a test; a test of our Affection. God wants Read the rest of this entry

The Life?

“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?” Matt.6:25.

Many of us are always chasing ‘the life’. We call it many things; some people call it ‘to arrive’. So we spend a lot of our time doing the things we think will lead to us ‘arriving’. Some people refer to chasing ‘the life’ as ‘wake up’. There are different expressions but the bottom line is a lot of people are chasing what they consider as ‘the life’. Imagine visiting your friend and you see his neighbor cruising in a boat. Read the rest of this entry
