Domestic Affairs I

“Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly” Col.3:18-19 [emphasis added]

God is interested in domestic issues. He is interested in how we run our households. Paul kicks off by addressing wives, please take note he is not addressing women but wives specifically. “Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord”. What does submission mean? Submission means to submit. There will be no issue of Read the rest of this entry

Edifying Word

The whole Bible was given to us by inspiration from God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives; it straightens us out and helps us do what is right” 2 Tim.3:16 [TLB]

It is my prayer that God will speak to you today and that His Word will change your life, in Jesus Name. Please read and study Colossians 3:18 – 4:18. God’s Word for us is that adding anything to Jesus nullifies the power of the cross. In other words, Jesus plus something equals nothing. In our culture, particularly in this part of the world, we have people saying Read the rest of this entry

How To… VI

Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive othersCol.3:13 [emphasis added].

Everybody has a fault. We are all faulty. When we get to heaven we will be perfect. The Bible did not say be faultless with one another. The Bible did not say do not offend one another. You will get offended but the Bible says make allowance. If I know this person is talkative, I am not saying the person is a gossip, I am saying talkative – two different things. If the Read the rest of this entry

How To… V

“So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it” Col.3:12,14 [MSG]

What to “put to on”: “Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with [put on] tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience  Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony” Col.3:12,14 [emphasis added]. Put on tenderhearted mercy; to be Read the rest of this entry

How To… IV

Do not allow this world to mold you in its own image. Instead, be transformed from the inside out by renewing your mind. As a result, you will be able to discern what God wills and whatever God finds good, pleasing, and complete” Rom.12:2 [VOICE]

“…Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world” Col.3:5 [emphasis added]. What is greed? There is a difference between your need and your want; greed is needing what you want. How many cars does a man really need? One but God can bless him with three or five. But a man really only needs one car or maybe two, one for Read the rest of this entry

How To… III

So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world” Col.3:5

What to “put to death”: “…Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world” Col.3:5 [emphasis added]. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality; in other words do not even flirt, which is what it means to have nothing to do Read the rest of this entry

How To… II

“So kill your earthly impulses: loose sex, impure actions, unbridled sensuality, wicked thoughts, and greed (which is essentially idolatry)” Col.3:5 [VOICE]

Paul urges us to put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within. So how do you put to death [kill]? Two practical scriptural ways of killing;

#1. You hand it over to the Holy Ghost. You put your life on the altar and you surrender that Read the rest of this entry

How To… I

“So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world” Col.3:5.

Paul says to us to gain victory over the enemy you must do three things. The first thing you do is Put to death; the second thing you do is Put off; then the third thing you do you is Put on. The King James translation for Colossians 3:5 reads, “ Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth…”. Read the rest of this entry

It Has To Be Daily

Think about (set your affection on) the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God” Col.3:2-3 [emphasis added]

In Colossians 1, Paul focuses on the Supremacy of Christ and establishing that Jesus existed before the world was created. In Colossians 2, Paul focuses on victory over external dangers, external influences, philosophies, and the teachings of men. But in Colossians 3 Paul focuses on victory over and all that but in chapter 3 Paul is focusing on victory over internal danger Read the rest of this entry

Set Yourself Free

“In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us” Col.3:11

What will be the authority in your life? Is it going to be the Word of God or the traditions of men? There was this particular wedding, real life story, the groom I think was Yoruba and the bride was Igbo. And the parents of both the bride and the groom will not have it. So this couple had to go through hell to get the two families to attend the wedding ceremony. Their Read the rest of this entry
