Heart Affairs II

“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him” John 4:23 [emphasis added]

God is looking for true worshippers! The people that will worship Him in spirit and in truth and I am praying that He finds you, in Jesus Name. True worship is worshipping God in spirit and in truth. Meaning, you do not only say I am loyal to You Jesus when you are in the midst of other believers. But when you get to your own house where no one sees you, you are actually loyal to Jesus. A couple goes to church and the Pastor says, “Husbands love your wives, wives submit to your husbands” and they both said, “Amen!” They get back home and the man says let us put everything behind us and move forward. And the wife says, do not even try that. You think you can use today’s sermon as an escape route after all that you have done to me? I have to deal with you first. What she has done is in church she has claimed loyalty to Jesus and to His Word but at home she says I am charge here.

So in order to learn how to be true worshippers we must go back to scripture. “Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking,  “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him.” …They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh” Matt.2:1-2, 11 [emphasis added]. Imagine old wise men bowing down for a baby. Doesn’t that look ridiculous? From this passage of scripture there are three things that jump out to us about true worship. The first is there can be no worship without a strong desire. The Bible says the wise men came from eastern lands. Bible scholars tell us that it must have taken them about two years to travel from the east to the Middle East because in those days they just had camels and their feet. Imagine looking for Jesus for two years. Another school of thought said it was not up to two years, the star must have risen when Jesus was conceived. So it must have taken them nine months. Even that, nine months – is that not a burning desire? Some people’s drive to church is thirty minutes and it is a pain, a problem. Nine months just to worship a baby. There has to be a strong desire because there can be no worship without a strong desire.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, please stir up in me a strong desire, a hunger like that of the three wise men in scripture to worship Jesus daily, in Jesus Name.
