Unhealthy Views

‘…be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble’ 1Pet.5:5b

Scripture gives us countless examples of people who had unhealthy views of themselves; examples not to follow. Lucifer was beautiful, adorned with precious stones but iniquity was found in him. He wanted to be like God [Ezek.28:13-15, &17]. Sometimes, thinking that you are too much can be very risky. Ten out of the twelve spies had an unhealthy view of self ‘we are like grasshoppers’. They saw themselves as inferior to the giants in the land. Instead of in the light of God who had done mighty works for their sake. Gideon was looking at himself in relation to his captivity and was hiding in a cave. But God saw him as a mighty man of valor [Judg.5:11-15]. God will do what He will do, you just be what God has called you to be. When Moses came face to face with the Perfect One, he saw all his imperfections. God called him and made him a god to Pharaoh. Yet Moses could not get past his physical challenge. You must look beyond your imperfection and fix your eyes on the Perfect One. Elijah sort to preserve himself thinking he was the only faithful prophet of God but God said there are 7000 others [1Kings.18:22, 19:9-19]. Elijah was developing a superiority complex. God has blessed you to be a blessing.  Your spiritual gifts are not for you alone but to be a blessing to the body of Christ. Help build others, educate and encourage them. Many times we are just content to be the star. It is much better when there are thousands of stars as against one lone star. Let people shine so that the flame will be bigger. Therein lies your own security. When you help people you can be sure that you will never lack help. Isaiah had a bit of a superiority complex [Isa.6:5]. He went about prophesying woe to others. But when he saw the glory of God, he said woe unto himself. When you point one finger at someone, four are pointing back at you. So it should teach us to be humble. ‘…be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble’ 1Pet.5:5b.

Prayer: Lord, help me to stay humble in my own eyes. Teach me to stay under the things that You have placed above me. And above the things You have placed under me, in Jesus Name.
