In Christ

‘This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!’ 2 Cor.5:17

The truth about life is that the things that we have been through try to determine the things that are set before us. But God does not want our past to determine our future. Your past should not determine your future. No matter how bad your past was God does not want that past to determine your future. Yet owing to the way we are wired and because of the way the world is, it is the negativity of our past that the enemy puts consistently before us. The enemy will attempt to mock your every effort at drawing close to God. The enemy tries frantically to use our past to influence our future. God doesn’t want our past to necessarily determine our future. If the past was horrible, God does not want it to determine your future. Even if your past has been good and rosy, and your slate is clean. God still doesn’t want your past to determine your future. The fact that you have been wise yesterday is not a determinant of your being wise tomorrow. The fact that you have been holy yesterday doesn’t mean you will be holy tomorrow. The fact that you were anointed yesterday doesn’t mean you will be anointed tomorrow. You are as wise as your last obedience and sacrifice. You are as anointed as your last obedience and sacrifice. So our past should not necessarily determine our future. What is most important is not where you are coming from but rather where you are going to. Regardless of where you are coming from, what is important is not where you are coming from. ‘This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!’ 2 Cor.5:17. God is saying as soon as you accept Jesus as your Lord, the past is erased. However, the new life has to be worked out in Christ. It is important for us to take our eyes off what we have been through and focus on where we are going to because that is what matters. The sins you have committed do not matter to God because in Christ He sees you as brand new. The past cannot keep you away from the future God has for you.

Prayer: Father, I ask for renewed strength to walk in the reality of my faith in Christ Jesus. The grace to look beyond the past to the future You have for me, in Jesus Name.
