The Covering
‘Jael went out to meet Sisera and said to him, “Come into my tent, sir. Come in. Don’t be afraid.” So he went into her tent, and she covered him with a blanket. “Please give me some water,” he said. “I’m thirsty.” So she gave him some milk from a leather bag and covered him again’ Judges 4:18-19.
The cover you have in life is fundamental to your direction and ultimately fulfilling your destiny. One of the best things that can happen to anyone is to be surrounded with the right covering. A godly spouse, godly parents, and godly counsel. Particularly for men, who they partner with is crucial to their success or failure. However, a man’s greatest joy equally has the potential to be his greatest sorrow because most men seem to lose their guard around women. And as such a lot of men have their destiny caged because a woman has covered them with a blanket [Prov.7:21-23]. In today’s scripture reading, Sisera accepts seeming hospitality, in fact the best anyone can get. He asks for water and he is given milk. Yet unknown to him what he is actually accepting is his death bed. Stay alert to the kind of covering you accept because only God knows the intentions of men. Jael’s objective from the very beginning was to destroy Sisera. And she did not have to sleep with him to do it. Jael disguised Sisera’s death with the cloak of pleasure and relief. ‘So he went into her tent, and she covered him with a blanket. “Please give me some water,” he said. “I’m thirsty.” So she gave him some milk from a leather bag and covered him again’. What covering have you accepted and what will be the outcome? Whose tent have you taken comfort in yet you have no business being there? She knows your likes and your dislikes. She will go the extra mile to please you. She will lead you to her tent. She will cover you, and you remain covered till one of two things happen: Destruction or God’s deliverance. God’s will is for you to be covered with His Glory. Jesus died so that you can be cloaked with righteousness. You do not have any business being intimate with a woman who is not your wife. If you have made this mistake then you need to ask the Lord for mercy, talk to your legs and FLEE. False covering has led to the downfall of many men. God has given us the example of Sisera, an example to avoid.
Thought: ‘I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust at a young woman’ Job 31:1
Prayer: Father, hide me in the secrecy of Your presence, away from the false covering that men provide. Shelter me from the thoughts and imaginations of the wicked, in Jesus Name.
