Servant Leadership
Matt.14:22-23 “Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home. After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.”
Wait a minute, what exactly is going on here! Jesus was the leader, right? So, after teaching, should He not have been whisked away by secret service agents? Then the disciples would be the ones to stay back, Read the rest of this entry
Stay Focused!
James 3:12-13 “Does a fig tree produce olives, or a grapevine produce figs? No, and you can’t draw fresh water from a salty spring. If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honourable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.
Have you noticed that when you start fasting, it seems like everyone everywhere you go is feasting? Sometimes, we are tempted to tell the people we do life with that we are fasting, Read the rest of this entry
Glory Road
2 Cor.4:17 (AMP) For our momentary, light distress (this passing trouble) is producing for us an eternal weight of glory (a fullness) beyond all measure (surpassing all comparisons, a transcendent splendour and an endless blessedness)!
When should I fast? You should fast in preparation to receive a Word from God. In God’s Favourite House, for example, we deliberately cut out special seasons where we fast in preparation to receive a Word from God. Read the rest of this entry
Benefits
Hab. 2:1 (ERV) “I will stand like a guard and watch. I will wait to see what the Lord will say to me. I will wait and learn how he answers my questions.” (emphasis added)
We will pick up from where we left off yesterday and that is the benefits of intermittent fasting. The first benefit of intermittent fasting is it changes the functions of cells, genes, and hormones. Read the rest of this entry
Sacrifice Advantage
Isa. 1:18-19 (NIV) “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land;
Fasting is extremely valuable and important. However, note that fasting does not make God a vending machine. Read the rest of this entry
Be Responsible!
1 Sam.15:22 “But Samuel replied, “What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.”
God’s Word clearly advocates fasting (both personal and corporate), and there are tremendous benefits. However, we must remember that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit Read the rest of this entry
The Heart
Joel 2:15-16 “Blow the ram’s horn in Jerusalem! Announce a time of fasting; call the people together for a solemn meeting. Gather all the people—the elders, the children, and even the babies. Call the bridegroom from his quarters and the bride from her private room.” (emphasis added)
Today’s scripture reference is an example of a corporate fast. In this particular reference, we see that in certain seasons, children are required to fast. Even the babies were not exempted. Read the rest of this entry
Do’s & Don’ts
Luke 18:9 “Then Jesus told this story to some who had great confidence in their own righteousness and scorned everyone else… 14…For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Jesus says we should fast but fasting should be done in humility and secrecy. Please read Luke 18:9-14. Jesus says that when you fast and make a boast of it, when your fasting is based on arrogance, Read the rest of this entry
Christlike
Luke 4:1 “Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River. He was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, 2 where he was tempted by the devil for forty days. Jesus ate nothing all that time and became very hungry.”
We are kicking off the year with our focus on Jesus; I believe that is the best to begin every endeavor. We will be looking at different aspects of Jesus’ Read the rest of this entry
New Beginnings
Philip. 2:5 “You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. 6 Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. 7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being…”
Happy New Year!!! We are grateful to God for new beginnings. The beauty of a New Year is that it affords us a fresh start. Read the rest of this entry
