Purpose of Promotion
‘When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m too much of a sinner to be around you.” For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had…’ Luke 5:8-9
Yesterday, we examined the Peter’s response to Jesus’ question – is it going to be about fishing for fish or fishing for men? Today we are going to examine the Luke response. Luke was a medical doctor when he met Jesus. After he met with Jesus, Luke remained a medical doctor. In other words, if he was a fisherman he remained a fisherman. But with Luke, it was not about the fish anymore. It was not about the trade anymore; it was about using that trade to help people connect to Jesus. So Read the rest of this entry
Number One Priority
‘When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m too much of a sinner to be around you.” For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had…’ Luke 5:8-9
Are you going to give your one and only life to fishing for fish or fishing for men? Are you going to invest this one life you have into fishing for small fish or fishing for big fish. The same way Jesus asked Peter, James, and John, He is asking us today. The same way He wanted Peter, James, and John to understand this, He wants us to understand that life is all about people. God wants you and I to help connect people to Him because with Jesus, people priority is number one priority. So Jesus is saying what will it be today, are you going to be fishing for fish or are you going to be fishing for men? In Luke 5:1-11, what they had worked for all night was to catch fish so that they can feed their families and have a good life. But they caught nothing. Jesus showed up, they caught so many fish they couldn’t even handle the catch. Then Peter had a light bulb moment; he realized that this was miraculous – a touch of divinity. Then comes the question, is it going to be about the fish or is it going to be about men? ‘Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!’ The truth we ought to realize today as followers of Christ Jesus is that we do not have a choice; Jesus will make you a fisher of men. However you must confront yourself with this question – is it going to be the fish or men?
Fish translates to money. Is it going to be about selling the fish, making money, and expanding your company? Or is going to be about people’s destinies? Is it going to be about dollars or is it going to be about destinies? If you choose dollars you will discover a life of emptiness. If you choose people’s destiny, you will discover a life of joy and fulfillment. Am I telling you to forget about the dollars? Well, pretty much yes. Let me break it down. Your response could be like Peter – “fish no more, Jesus all the way”. He left everything, even the fish he caught he did not even bother selling. Peter’s thinking could have been, ‘Jesus, you are the one that made the fish come, let me hold unto you, more fish will come’. Smart guy; he held Jesus and left everything. Until you realize what Peter realized, it will be difficult for you to hold on to what really matters. I am praying for you today that you will not miss it.
Prayer: Father, I pray that I will not miss what is important. Help me make fishing for men priority, in Jesus Name.
Stirred Up
‘…Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish”. “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” Luke 5:4-5
It is important for us, as believers, to know that God can stir us up just to preach the gospel and sometimes it can be to total strangers. Go with God’s leading. A friend of mine invited me for her party. They were all teenagers and you know how teenager’s parties can be. I grabbed the microphone, called for their attention and preached Jesus. When I was done I declared the party could continue but instead they all began to leave one after the other. She said she hated me for spoiling Read the rest of this entry
The Bridge
‘I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life’ John 5:24
What exactly is the bridge? On one side there is a God and on the other side there is man. Between God and man there is a gulf [gap, space]. The gulf [space or separation] was caused by man’s desire to do things his own way and not God’s way. It was man’s rebellion against God’s approaches that separated man from God. In simple terms, man disobeyed God. The reason why it is important to Read the rest of this entry
Worthy Purpose
‘Then Jesus explained: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work’ John 4:34
‘Go and get your husband”, Jesus told her. “I don’t have a husband,” the woman replied. Jesus said, “You’re right! You don’t have a husband…’ John 4:16-18. Jesus connected to the Samaritan woman’s story by word of knowledge while He was talking with her. She was astonished as Jesus began to tell her her life’s history. When we develop friendships, the purpose is to discover stories. Read the rest of this entry
Introduction 103
‘You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had… He humbled Himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross’ Phil.2:5 & 8
Third Thing: Just break the ice. There is a major hindrance to breaking the ice with people. The major hindrance that I have realized with myself also in breaking the ice, is ego and pride. Jesus was the first person to walk across the cosmos, come on earth, and break the ice. ‘You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as Read the rest of this entry
You Are The Light
‘You are the light of the world– like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden’ Matt.5:14
The greatest gift we can give people that are close to us but far from God, is the gift of an introduction to God. The creator of the heavens and the earth that made them, loves them, and has a purpose for them. Every believer regardless of his/her vocation is called to introduce people to Jesus. The beauty and the danger of it is the fact that you may be only one conversation away from Read the rest of this entry
The Solution
‘Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me’ John 14:6.
‘Can’t the devil just swallow his pride and ask God for forgiveness so that all this trouble will end?’ I stumbled on this thought expressed by a number of people on social media in many different words. I would say it makes a lot of sense, don’t you agree? But the truth is, logic does not always explain God. In fact, many times logic is far from God and I will explain why. Do you know why the Read the rest of this entry
Fulfilling Purpose
‘Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and Son and the Holy Spirit… And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age” Matt.28:19-20.
‘Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations’. This is the marching order that Jesus gave the first disciples and by extension to us when He was physically leaving the earth. Yet, even though many believers have these instructions, they are frozen. Jesus says ‘go’ but we are stuck. Some people hear Jesus say ‘go and make disciples’ and they really go. They go to their jobs, their homes, their cars, and Read the rest of this entry
Justify Pleasure
‘Blessed are you, O land, when your king is the son of nobles, And your princes feast at the proper time – For strength and not drunkenness!’ Ecc.10:17 [NKJV].
The key thing is that you really don’t need many things. Think about it. How much money does a man really need? ‘Blessed are you, O land, when your king is the son of nobles, And your princes feast at the proper time – For strength and not drunkenness!’ Blessed are the land, the home, the family, and the marriage where your kings and queens, if you will, eat for strength and not for drunkenness.
