The Dorcas Way
Acts 9:39 “So Peter returned with them… they took him to the upstairs room… filled with widows who were weeping and showing him the coats and other clothes Dorcas had made for them. 40 …then he knelt and prayed… 41 …then he …presented her to them alive.”
Are you a contributor or are you a taker? If anything happens to you [God forbid], will the people you do life with miss you? Will anybody cry because of you?
Of The Heart
Acts 9:39 “So Peter returned with them… they took him to the upstairs room… filled with widows who were weeping and showing him the coats and other clothes Dorcas had made for them. 40 …then he knelt and prayed… 41 …Then he …presented her to them alive.”
What is your contribution? It is in our contribution that we find fulfilment in our marriages, in our homes, in our organizations and in our businesses.
Shortfall
Rom.3:22 “We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. 23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”
Businesses go through seasons and that is totally understandable. However, it is one thing not to have the money to pay salaries and it is another thing to withhold the salaries of your employees.
Given vs. Earned
Ex.20:12 “Honour your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”
I perceive that the question on a lot of our minds since we began to talk about the fifth commandment is, how can a Christian honour a dishonourable teacher, or a dishonourable boss, or a dishonourable head of department, or a dishonourable parent, or honour a dishonourable president? “Good-est!”
1 John 3:1 [NIV] “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are…”
My advice to parents is to do your best to be impartial in your dealings with your children. I applaud the parents that claim not to have a favourite child and I think it is really commendable.
For Your Good
Ps.139:3 “You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. 4 You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. 5 You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.”
God has given you this commandment so that it will be well with you and with your children. It is love to teach this commandment to your children, because it will do them good. The reality is that we are not doing our parents a favour by honouring them.
The Ten I
Heb.8:10 “But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel on that day, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their minds, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.”
God gave Moses two stone tablets upon which He had handwritten the Ten Commandments. But in anger, Moses smashes both, right? So, God told Moses to carve two new tablets and bring them up the mountain. Guess what? Read the rest of this entry
Yes or No?
Matt.5:36 (JB) “All you need to say is `Yes’ if you mean yes, or `No’ if you mean no; anything more than this comes from the evil one.”
Meekness is not weakness! God has not designed you to be a wimp or a doormat. He wants you to have conviction! How do you handle situations at work or in your business that put a question mark on your integrity or your stand in God? What do you do when your customer says for the relationship to continue, you have to adjust your books? Read the rest of this entry
Detox
Rom.12:2 (Philips) “Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mould, but let God re-mould your minds from within, so that you may prove in practice that the plan of God for you is good, meets all his demands and moves towards the goal of true maturity.”
Prov.22:10 (LB) “Throw out the mocker and you will be rid of tension, fighting & quarrels.” When you get rid of the gossip –the toxic person, you will be shocked how healthy your organization will become. In fact, you are sending a statement out to those people that are not gossips and the people that have a propensity to gossip. Read the rest of this entry
Maturity = Control
Prov.21:23 (GN) “If you want to stay out of trouble, be careful what you say.”
The mark of maturity is controlled response. Maturity is not reacting immediately to what people say, but giving a controlled response. Imagine someone has been set up at his office and everyone is waiting for him to explode when he finds out. And even after he discovers, he still does not retaliate; Read the rest of this entry
