The Prophecies

John 18:14Caiaphas was the one who had told the other Jewish leaders, “It’s better that one man should die for the people.”

Caiaphas, being the high priest, said that not knowing that he was prophesying that Jesus was going to take the place of you and me. He was prophesying that Jesus was going to take the place of the people and that is a huge substitutional sacrifice. Read the rest of this entry

In Fulfilment

John 18:8-9I told you that I am he,” Jesus said. “And since I am the one you want, let these others go.” He did this to fulfil his own statement: “I did not lose a single one of those you have given me.”

John 18:11But Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword back into its sheath. Shall I not drink from the cup of suffering the Father has given me?” Jesus refused to circumvent the process. The remaining ten disciples were armed and guess who told them to carry their swords? Read the rest of this entry

Stand Tall!

John 18:4 “Jesus fully realized all that was going to happen to him, so he stepped forward to meet them. “Who are you looking for?” he asked.”

John 18:3The leading priests and Pharisees had given Judas a contingent of Roman soldiers and Temple guards to accompany him…” The number of soldiers alone, not to talk of the temple guards, that came to arrest Jesus were at least two hundred. Read the rest of this entry

After This

Zec. 13:6 “And if someone asks, ‘Then what about those wounds on your chest?’ he will say, ‘I was wounded at my friends’ house!’”

John 18:1After saying these things, Jesus crossed the Kidron Valley with his disciples and entered a grove of olive trees.” (emphasis added). After saying what things? After casting the vision and the long prayer in John 17, talk time was over, prayer time was over. Read the rest of this entry

God’s Intent vs. Man’s Intent

Gen.50:20 “But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good…”

Have you ever been betrayed; how did it go? This question is actually from John 18:1-40 [please read] and it is the focus of our study over the next few days. If it comes from the enemy, it is an attack. If comes from a friend, it is a betrayal – friendly fire. Read the rest of this entry

Your Heart

John 17:17&19 “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth …And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth.” (NRSV & NLT)

God can bring glory out of shame, however, shame itself does not glorify God. In fact, there would be no need for God to change shame to glory if shame glorifies God. So, shame is of no value to anybody. Apart from the glory confusion, there is also the ‘by God’s grace’ confusion. Read the rest of this entry

Fruit

John 19:11 “Then Jesus said, “You would have no power over me at all unless it were given to you from above…”

Yesterday, we talked about the glory confusion in the Church and how a lot of people are embracing shame because of ignorance. We need to understand that a man can have nothing except that which is given from above neither power nor glory. Read the rest of this entry

Unity & Glory

Rom. 15:6 “In this unity, you will share one voice as you glorify the one True God, the Father of our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One, our Liberating King.” (Voice]

If in the few hours He had left, Jesus thought it important to pray for unity in the Church, then it is worthy of focus. What I say to my friends, my colleagues, my seniors in ministry is that, ‘we do not have to agree on all the minors. Read the rest of this entry

Unity

Eph.4:2-3 Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.”

Yesterday, we looked at two of the three predominant themes in Jesus’ prayer. Jesus prayed for Protection, Jesus prayed for Glory and thirdly for Unity. Jesus prayed for unity. Jn.17:21, 23I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you… I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.” (emphasis added). Read the rest of this entry

The Focus

John 17:1 “After saying all these things, Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you.” (emphasis added).

When it was close to the hour of His crucifixion, Jesus narrowed the focus of His prayers. Jesus said in John 17:9&20 My prayer is not for the world, but for those you have given me, because they belong to you. “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message.” (emphasis added).
