Ignore The “Eliabs”

‘He walked over to some others and asked them the same thing and received the same answer. Then David’s question was reported to king Saul, and the king sent for him’ 1Sam.17:30-31

By now you must have read all the Scripture references listed for the military battles of David. If you haven’t then please read 1Sam.17; 1Sam.18-20; 1Sam.23:1-5; 1Sam.27; 1Sam.30; 2Sam.2,3&4; 2Sam.5:6-10; 2Sam.5:17-20; 2Sam.5:22-25; 2Sam.10; 2Sam.11-12; 2Sam.13:18; 2Sam.20; 2Sam.21:15-17; 2Sam.21:18; 2Sam.22:19; and 2Sam.22:20-22.  As you do, may God Himself visit you. Over the next few days we will be studying the battle between Read the rest of this entry

No Repentance, No Restoration!

‘Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and make me willing to obey you’ Ps.51:12.

The third reason David almost lost that battle is; restoration without repentance will always lead to regret. Absalom was not repentant at all. He still felt slighted that the king would deal with him the way he did. He didn’t see what he had done wrong. “Amnon raped my sister for crying out loud and I killed him. So bloody what?” No repentance. Leaders take note, when you restore someone that has not repented; you are setting yourself up for trouble. This Read the rest of this entry

Leadership

‘So the king went out and took his seat at the town gate, and as the news spread throughout the town that he was there, everyone went to him. Meanwhile, the Israelites who had supported Absalom fled to their homes’ 2Sam.19:8

Permit me to reiterate yesterday’s conclusion by way of emphasis. In leadership, the attitude of the leader affects everybody else. Leaders we have to be careful, you are carrying a lot of weight. I know that you are carrying things that if the people around you knew about they will be more sensitive to you. They won’t just open their mouths and say rubbish but they don’t know. Yet it is still your duty to maintain the right atmosphere in your house, in your Read the rest of this entry

A Father’s Love

‘And the king gave this command to Joab, Abishai, and Ittai: “For my sake, deal gently with young Absalom”. And all the troops heard the king give this order to his commanders’ 2 Sam.18:5

Now Absalom was praised as the most handsome man in all Israel. He was flawless from head to foot. He cut his hair only once a year, and then only because it was to heavy…2Sam.14:25-26. God set Absalom up and while he was chasing David, that same hair that was his glory was what hung him on a tree. Every time you chase your father, the same thing that brought glory to you will hang you. David understood this and that is why he couldn’t Read the rest of this entry

Beloved Not Bastard

‘…Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father? If God doesn’t discipline you as he does all of his children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his children at all’ Heb.12:7-8.

When God has chosen to favour you, expect a certain level of responsibility. It simply means that what others do and get away with, you cannot do and get away with the same thing. I know Pastors that do certain things and they go away with it but if I try it I’m dead, as in literally dead. I realize that the reason that life is not for me is because God has said, “I have chosen to favour you”. I can show you my scars – “rod and the staff”. Everyone that is favoured of Read the rest of this entry

Absalom Spirit II

‘For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and punishes each one he accepts as his child’ Heb.12:6

Watch out for the spirit of Absalom. The spirit of Absalom would say, “that is their ruling but if I were the head of that department, my ruling would favour you”. That is an Absalom spirit right there. “If only Pastor will be spiritual enough and make me the department head, you will see how this department will make progress”. For four years, Absalom was patient and consistent. The Bible says he bought a chariot, he hired fifty bodyguards and he Read the rest of this entry

Absalom Spirit I

‘Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech’ Prov.4:24

There is so much to be learnt from the life of David. It is my prayer that even as we study, we will take note of the sins we need to repent of and the errors to avoid. The story of Absalom is filled with errors to avoid especially in parenting. So Amnon raped Tamar and the lust turned to hatred. This is the sorrow of every fornicator. You think your dreams of marriage will end if you do not sleep with him before marriage? If you give in to lust, hatred would Read the rest of this entry

Merciful Father

‘Have mercy upon me, O God,
According to Your lovingkindness;
According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,
Blot out my transgressions’ Ps.51:1[NKJV]

“I’m in a desperate situation!” David replied to Gad. “But let me fall into the hands of the Lord, for his mercy is very great. Do not let me fall into human hands.” 1Chr.21:13. David knew that with God there is mercy. David knew that if he ended up in the hands of man, he would not find mercy. In fact man will flog you for those three months and ask for extra time to keep flogging you. If you need to understand something today, understand that with God Read the rest of this entry

Consistent Victory

‘Therefore David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the Lord said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah’ 1Sam.23:2 [KJV]

Let us chronicle the battles of David and I am praying that this births in you the fire to claim your victory consistently. Remember we are under a better covenant and we are fighting from the place of victory. David fought goliath [1Sam.17]; David fought Saul [1Sam.18-20]; David fought the philistines [1Sam.23:1-5]; David fought the Geshurite, the Girzites, and the Amalekites [1Sam.27]; David fought the Amalekites [1Sam.30]; David fought the Read the rest of this entry

You Win

‘Blessed be the Lord my strength which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight’ Ps.144:1 [KJV]

Over the next few days we will be focused on the military battles of David. David fought other battles; for instance emotional battles, he did not do very well in those battles. David did not loose a single war – not one. That’s is just awesome. The Bible in the Book of Chronicles lists kings and the wars they fought. The ones they won and the ones they lost. David in recorded history, according to the Bible, fought the most wars of any king of Israel and he did not Read the rest of this entry
