Inspite Of Dysfunction III
‘Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me’ 2 Cor.12:9
You are not the first child of God to experience challenges. But you have to remember that God is too faithful to fail you and choose to focus on God’s faithfulness. Paul spent a great part of his ministry for Jesus in a prison. Yet inspite of the prison bars, Paul witnessed Christ. Paul and Zechariah could have spent their entire time throwing pity parties about what was lacking in their lives. They could both have given up serving God. Do you think they were not ridiculed for witnessing God Read the rest of this entry
Inspite Of Dysfunction II
‘One day the girl said to her mistress, “I wish my master would go to see the prophet in Samaria. He would heal him of his leprosy’ 2 Kings 5:3
With all the boldness in the world, the young Israelite slave girl put forward her suggestion to the general’s wife. You and I must learn to function in spite of dysfunction. Naaman was leprous but the king had to lean on him. Leprous people usually have a colony; they do not even come into the society. Even though Naaman was leprous the king had to put his hand on him at the risk of getting contaminated. Naaman was that important. Even though he was leprous, Naaman had Read the rest of this entry
Inspite Of Dysfunction I
‘The king of Aram had great admiration for Naaman, the commander of his army, because through him the Lord had given Aram great victories. But though Naaman was a mighty warrior, he suffered from leprosy’ 2 Kings 5:1
We must learn to function inspite of dysfunction, challenges, and everything that life throws at us. Naaman was a leper but even leprosy did not stop him from deploying and releasing his gift and becoming the general of a nation. For a nation whose king is not a warring king, the general becomes practically the number one person. Some nations have kings who are warring kings like David but in some nations the kings are not warring kings like in this case. So Naaman was Read the rest of this entry
Not Without Commitment
‘He always stands by his covenant— the commitment he made to a thousand generations’ Ps.105:8.
To make progress in any endeavor, you have to be committed. Without commitment, there can never be progress. The truth is that nothing happens outside commitment. In order to make progress in any area of your life you require commitment. If you do not commit to your education, you cannot go anywhere no matter how much your family invests. As a young man if you do not commit to the woman you love that relationship cannot go anywhere. If you are a young man interested in a Read the rest of this entry
The Compass
‘As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God’ Ps.42:1 [KJV]
The areas we have focused on over the past few days are critical. These are the things that can give us Christians a bad report before the world. Not the power for healing the sick. We have people who are filled with the Holy Spirit but are nasty at work. People are filled with the Holy Spirit and their spouses regret living with them. People who are filled with the Holy Spirit but all we can hear is noise. God wants us to open our hearts to Him. The Holy Spirit is a person and He can be Read the rest of this entry
The Power IV
‘The love of God is shed abroad our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us’ Rom.5:5[KJV].
It is the Holy Spirit that empowers us to love and forgive. Some one has hurt you very deeply perhaps a parent, spouse, siblings, or colleague. The only person that can make you forgive is the Holy Spirit. ‘If someone says, I love God, but hates a Christian brother or sister, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?’ 1 John 4:20. If you don’t love the people you can see, how can you love the person you cannot see? The Read the rest of this entry
The Power III
‘So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves’ Gal.5:16.
The truth is that you cannot live a holy life in your strength alone. God is very prudent with resources. If He has given you His Spirit then it is because you need Him to survive. ‘…let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves’. Only the Holy Spirit can give you and I the power to live holy lives. People have said to me that they do not think God is interested in them because they have this incessant desire to do bad things. Can I tell you a secret? Read the rest of this entry
The Power II
‘After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness’ Acts 4:31.
The Holy Spirit gives us the power to share Christ boldly. Before Peter received the Holy Spirit he was really timid and when the chips were down he denied Jesus. When things got heated the disciples ran away. But when they received the Holy Spirit, Peter could confront danger without any fear. ‘And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. I did this so you would trust not Read the rest of this entry
The Power I
‘For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children’ Rom.8:16.
We know that the promised Holy Spirit is with us. But what is He supposed to do really? ‘But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth’ Acts 1:8. What this means is no Holy Spirit no power. To operate as a Christian you need power. The Holy Spirit gives us that power. You can have a form of godliness but without the presence of the Holy Spirit there will be no Read the rest of this entry
Another Helper
‘And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth…’ John 14:16-17
Jesus says ‘I will give you another helper’. The word another in this statement is not the word heteros, which means another of a different quality. It is the word allos meaning another of equal quality – the same. Then shortly after that Jesus says ‘I will not leave you comfortless, I will come to you’. So the Holy Spirit is Jesus. He is the Spirit of Christ. So the Holy Spirit literarily took the place of Christ here on earth. The same way Jesus walked with the disciples is the Read the rest of this entry
