Outstanding

Matt.5:16Let your light shinebefore men, that they may see your good deedsand praise your Father in heaven.” [with emphasis]

Excellence glorifies God and inspires people. When we deliver excellence at work, we bring glory to God, our Maker and King. But it does not end there. People look at us and get inspired because of the level of excellence displayed through our work. Then they become inspired to be professional like you and inspired to serve your God. Antidote

Lu.12:15 (GN) “And he went on to say to them all, “Watch out and guard yourselves from every kind of greed; because your true life is not made up of the things you own, no matter how rich you may be”[with emphasis]

A lot of people hate to admit it but the truth remains that work can become an addiction. People can damage their souls, damage their families, damage their spiritual development, and damage their own physical health. But God is offering us a cure – His cure for workaholism. God is saying R-E-L-A-X! Read the rest of this entry

The Real Deal

Mark 8:36-37 “What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?  Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?”

R-E-L-A-X:AdjustYour Values. The question you need to ask yourself is, what am I trading my life for? King Solomon had everything we spend our lives chasing and this is what he had to say. Eccl. 2:10-11(GN) Anything I wanted, I got, I didn’t deny myself any pleasure. I was proudof everything I had worked for… Then I thought about all I had done, and how hard I had worked doing it, and I realized it didn’t mean a thing”[with emphasis]. Better Off

Eccl.4.9 Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. 10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.”

Yesterday, we established that the concept of “Work-Family Balance” is a myth. Instead, seek “Work-Family Integration” because with integration, equilibrium is attainable and balance is possible. When you have work family integration, your spouse stops competing with your work life and starts collaborating with you and with your work. Read the rest of this entry

Myth Buster

Eph.4:16 “He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.” [emphasis added]

The myth that a lot of us have is, we are trying to create a balance and it is often tagged “Work-Family Balance.” Are you familiar with this? Just like the graphical illustration, you have work life and family life putting pressure on both sides of the scale with a fulcrum at the middle. Read the rest of this entry

Practical Rest

Heb.4:9 “So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. 10 For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labours, just as God did after creating the world.”

The question on our minds is how practical is it to rest in today’s world where everything seems to be happening at jet speed. Yesterday, I shared with you something I also learnt from Rick Warren and it has changed my life totally. I learnt to do three things: deflect daily, withdraw weekly and abandon annually. Rest-A-While

Ex.20:9-10(GN)“You have six days in which to do your work, but the seventh day is a day of rest dedicated to Me. On that day no one is to work…”

In R-E-L-A-X, L stands for LimitYour Labour. You must make time for other things apart from work. Put a schedule down on paper and stick to it, plus have someone make you accountable. You need to have a day of rest. After the French revolution, they cancelled the Sabbath on Sunday’s because they said there were not enough days to work. Read the rest of this entry

Birthplace

Eccl.5:10    “Those who love money will never have enough. How meaningless to think that wealth brings true happiness! 11 The more you have, the more people come to help you spend it. So what good is wealth—except perhaps to watch it slip through your fingers!”

How much is enough? Albert Einstein says, “It’s not that I’m so smart, but I stay with the questions much longer”. So, in line with this learning, we will continue today in the question, how much is enough? William Blake tells us that, “You never know what is enough unless you know what is more than enough.Read the rest of this entry

Enough Gain?

1 Tim. 6:6-8 “Godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that”[with emphasis].

Key Question 2: How much is enough? Really, how much would you need to make for you to consider it enough money? How many cars are enough? How many cars can a man drive? How many houses can a man leave in? How many rooms can a man sleep in? Building a house with ten rooms is neither here nor there. It is your choice really. If it makes you happy, then build it. But how many rooms can you sleep in? If in one night you insist on sleeping in all ten rooms, what do you think will be the result? Read the rest of this entry
