Ready. Set. Pray.

1 Kings 18:36-37 “…Elijah …prayed, “O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, prove today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant. Prove that I have done all this at your command. O Lord, answer me! …so these people will know that you, O Lord, are God…”

Elijah’s first prayer was not recorded, it was only the second prayer that was recorded. But James 5 tells us how he prayed the first prayer and 1Kings 18 showed us how he prayed the second prayer. So, if you combine the two, we can see how he prayed both prayers. Read the rest of this entry

Take A Stand

James 5:17-18 “Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years! Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops.”

Up until this point of his introduction, Elijah was an unknown prophet until in 1 Kings 17:1And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.” (KJV). High Priority

Leviticus 26:4 “I will give you your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.” (NRSV)

Yesterday we began to look at the significance of rain and that is where we will pick up today’s devotional from. Rain causes a harvest. Rain refreshes. Rain signifies a change in season. One huge importance of rain is a leveller. Read the rest of this entry

The Rain

Isaiah 55:10 “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there until they have watered the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater.” (NRSV)

Ps.123:1-3I raise my eyes to fix my gaze on You, for Your throne resides in the heavens. Just as the eyes of servants closely watch the hand of their masters, just as a maid carefully observes the slightest gesture of her mistress, in the same way, we look to You, Eternal One, waiting for our God to pour out His mercy upon us.” (Voice). The One

Daniel 4:34 “After this time had passed, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven. My sanity returned, and I praised and worshiped the Most High and honoured the one who lives forever. His rule is everlasting, and his kingdom is eternal.”

King Nebuchadnezzar is an example of someone who forgot that God was his source and began to look to ‘Nile’. God had prospered him and given him multiple victories and conquests. God in His mercy had previously warned Nebuchadnezzar in a dream, but time passed, and nothing happened. Read the rest of this entry

Never Forget

Deu.26:12 “The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none.” (NIV)

Yesterday, we talked about an aspect of the Promised Land that was a struggle for the children of Israel back then and a lot of Christians struggle with it even today. God took them from a place where the water was flowing from the ground [the Nile] to a place where they needed to look up to Read the rest of this entry

Heads Up!

Psa.121:1–2 “I look up to the mountains and hills, longing for God’s help. But then I realize that our true help and protection is only from the Lord, our Creator who made the heavens and the earth.” (TPT)

Deut.11:10-12For the land you are about to enter and take over is not like the land of Egypt from which you came, where you planted your seed and made irrigation ditches with your foot as in a vegetable garden. Rather, the land you will soon take over is a land of hills and valleys with plenty of rain—a land that the Lord your God cares for. He watches over it through each season of the year!” Read the rest of this entry

The Source

1 Kings 18:43 “Then he said to his servant, “Go and look out toward the sea.” The servant went and looked, then returned to Elijah and said, “I didn’t see anything.” Seven times Elijah told him to go and look.”

Even though Elijah had heard the sound of the abundance of rain, he still went to pray. Why? Prayer is what connects heaven to earth. Elijah put his head between his knees and began to pray. After a while, he sent his servant to go and check, but he saw nothing. Read the rest of this entry

The Connect

1 Kings 18:42 “So Ahab went to eat and drink. But Elijah climbed to the top of Mount Carmel and bowed low to the ground and prayed with his face between his knees.”

In the Words of Ricky Dillard’s song Release, ‘The heavens are open, His Spirit is flowing. Whatever you need, whatever you need.’ By God’s grace, we are in a season of Open Heavens; I am confident that certain people who have been operating under sealed heavens, Read the rest of this entry

Personified

John 1:14 “So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.”

Please read John 1:47-49As they approached, Jesus said, “Now here is a genuine son of Israel—a man of complete integrity.”  “How do you know about me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus replied, “I could see you under the fig tree before Philip found you.” Then Nathanael exclaimed, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God—the King of Israel!” Read the rest of this entry
