Alone vs. Lonely
Luke 1:80 “John grew up and became strong in spirit. And he lived in the wilderness until he began his public ministry to Israel.”
We will kick off today’s devotion with our final thought from yesterday which is that the problem of loneliness cannot be solved by another human being. Erroneously, people look on the outside to solve a problem that can only be solved on the inside. Read the rest of this entry
Walk & Talk
Genesis 5:24 “but Enoch had such a close and intimate relationship with God that one day he just vanished—God took him.” (Voice)
We are still on our bold steps journey and for the next few days, our focus is on bold steps in relationships. Isa.1:18 “Come on now, let’s walk and talk; let’s work this out. Your wrongdoings are bloodred, But they can turn as white as snow. Your sins are red like crimson, But they can be made clean again like new wool.” (Voice, emphasis added). Rise Up
Phil.3:12-13 “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me …one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead” (NIV, emphasis added).
There are barriers to moving from seeing to doing, barriers to taking bold steps, and the first is the barrier of complacency. The second is the barrier of loss or the unwillingness to bear loss. The third barrier is the barrier of pain and the fourth is the barrier of fear – the fear of failure, Read the rest of this entry
Press Onward
Isaiah 41:10 “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
Interestingly, a lot of people erroneously think being a Christian means you will not have any problems. You are going to have problems, but the key thing is you are going to overcome the problems. Jesus endured the pain. Great people know how to endure pain and not avoid pain Read the rest of this entry
Know This
2 Chr. 7:14 “Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.”
To have power with God and man, you have to Learn To Pray By Yourself Without Relying On Someone Else To Pray For You. You have to Pray To Your Heavenly Father And Not To Anyone Else. You have to Pray In The Name of Jesus. You have to Confess Your Sins. You have to Abide In Him & Let His Words Abide In You. You have to Please Him and you have to Be A Fruit Bearing Christian. You have to Have Faith Every Time You Pray and Be Persistent. Read the rest of this entry
The Most
Eph.5:15-16 “So be careful how you live; be mindful of your steps. Don’t run around like idiots as the rest of the world does. Instead, walk as the wise! Make the most of every living and breathing moment because these are evil times” (Voice).
Talking to different people from different backgrounds, at different stages in life and one thing that is common to everyone I speak to whether it is a child, a teenager, an adult, male or female, everyone has a dream. Read the rest of this entry
Unity
Eph.4:2-3 “Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.”
Yesterday, we looked at two of the three predominant themes in Jesus’ prayer. Jesus prayed for Protection, Jesus prayed for Glory and thirdly for Unity. Jesus prayed for unity. Jn.17:21, 23 “I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you… I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.” (emphasis added). Read the rest of this entry
Man’s Way vs. God’s Way
Mark 7:7-8 “Their worship is a farce, for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.’ For you ignore God’s law and substitute your own tradition.”
John 9:16 “Some of the Pharisees said, “This man Jesus is not from God, for he is working on the Sabbath…” (emphasis added). It is interesting that as part of their laws, the Pharisees actually forbade spitting on the Sabbath. Read the rest of this entry
Testing
Job 23: 10-11 “But he knows where I am going. And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold. For I have stayed on God’s paths; I have followed his ways and not turned aside.”
John 6:5-7 “Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, “Where can we buy bread to feed all these people?” He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do. Philip replied, “Even if we worked for months, we wouldn’t have enough money to feed them!” (emphasis added). Read the rest of this entry
His Not Yours, III
John 5:20 “For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything he is doing. In fact, the Father will show him how to do even greater works than healing this man. Then you will truly be astonished.” (emphasis added).
John 21:15-17 “After breakfast Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” Peter replied, “you know I love you.” “Then feed my lambs,” Jesus told him. Jesus repeated the question: “Simon son of John, do you love me?” “Yes, Lord,” Peter said, “you know I love you.” “Then take care of my sheep,” Jesus said. A third time he asked him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Then feed my sheep.” God measures our love for Him by our service for His people. Read the rest of this entry
