John 4:25-26 “The woman said, “I know the Messiah is coming—the one who is called Christ. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” Then Jesus told her, “I am the Messiah!” (emphasis added).
Did you know that in general at the time, men do not speak to their own wives in public? This was the cultural setting in place when Paul was talking to the Corinthian church. 1 Cor. 14:34-35 “Women should be silent during the church meetings. It is not proper for them to speak. They should be submissive, just as the law says. If they have any questions, they should ask their husbands at home, for it is improper for women to speak in church meetings.” Paul made this statement when they wanted to put order in the disorder in the Corinthian church. Jn.4:9&27 “She said to Jesus, “You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink? …Just then his disciples came back. They were shocked to find him talking to a woman, but none of them had the nerve to ask, “What do you want with her?…” (emphasis added).
What this woman was really saying is, ‘It is bad enough that I am from Samaria and You are a Jew. And added to being a Samaritan, I am a woman, ‘a woman’. So why are You asking me for a drink?’ Did Jesus not know she was a woman? Read the rest of this entry →
By Night & By Day

John 19:39 “Nicodemus, who had first come to Jesus at night, came now in broad daylight carrying a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.” (MSG].

Influence

John 2:4-5 “Dear woman, that’s not our problem,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.” But his mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” (emphasis added).
When you have power with God you can influence heaven and things will change. Mary knew she had power with God and she influenced heaven, not for herself but for people who had no clue and this is big. Read the rest of this entry →

The Lamb

John 1:29 “The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him and declared, “Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (NRSV, emphasis added)
The way [term] John the Baptist used to describe Jesus is very different from that of the Pharisees and the Sanhedrin [the body of spiritual leadership in Jerusalem]. Whereas the spiritual leaders used the terminology of the Prophets, that is, the Messiah, the Christos, the Prophet that Moses spoke about in Deuteronomy. Read the rest of this entry →
Three Rs

John 1:10-12 “He was in the world… the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” (NIV, emphasis added).
Recognize Him? John the Baptist and Jesus were cousins, but John had to recognize Jesus. John did not as his cousin. When he saw Him coming for baptism, John said, “Behold! The Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world”, not behold my cousin, cousin Jay. Read the rest of this entry →

1 John 4:10 & 19 (KJV) “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins… We love him, because he first loved us.”
Picture this; John 1:26-27 “John answered them, “I baptize with water. Among you stands one whom you do not know, the one who is coming after me; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandal.” (NRSV, emphasis added). John 13:3-5 “Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Who Are You?

Gal.5:16 (NIV) “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
We are starting today’s devotional by diving headfirst into God’s Word. John 1:19-23 “This is the testimony given by John when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” He confessed and did not deny it, but confessed, “I am not the Messiah.” And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the prophet?” He answered, “No.” Then they said to him, “Who are you? Let us have an answer for those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” He said, “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’” as the prophet Isaiah said.” (NRSV). John 14:19 “In just a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you’re going to see Me because I am alive and you’re about to come alive!” (MSG, emphasis added)
Please read Mark 15:21-41. The night before Jesus was crucified, He made a very strange statement; strange considering the context He was in. The disciples were expecting the Messiah as a conquering king that will come and physically liberate the nation of Israel. Read the rest of this entry →

Freed

Rom. 3:23-24 “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.” (emphasis added).
Being a Christian is summed up in one word and that word is “Done”. It is because of what Christ has done that we can do what He has called us to do! We stand tall not on the authority of our dos [prayers, giving, serving], but on the authority of the complete work of Jesus on the cross of Cavalry. Read the rest of this entry →
