In His Service

1 Cor.12:4-5 “There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all.  There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord.” (emphasis added).

Open Up!

Acts 2:3-4 “Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.”

The immediate evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit is joy but the expression that comes out is, other tongues, speaking in other tongues. Must everybody speak in tongues? No! Some people remain at half a cup till they see Jesus and they are going to heaven. Read the rest of this entry

With Him

Isa.7:10-12 “Later, the Lord sent this message to King Ahaz: “Ask the Lord your God for a sign of confirmation, Ahaz. Make it as difficult as you want—as high as heaven or as deep as the place of the dead.” But the king refused. “No,” he said, “I will not test the Lord like that.”

In yesterday’s devotional, we established the fact that while Ahaz response to God on the surface sounded deeply spiritual. It sounds spiritual but it had no spiritual weight. It sounded pious but was arrant nonsense, crap. When God says, “give me a sign”, Read the rest of this entry

Speak Up!

Gal.6:2 (TLB) “Share each other’s troubles and problems, and so obey our Lord’s command.”

1 Kings 18:38-39 (NIV) “Then the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench. When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, “The Lord—he is God! The Lord—he is God!”

You and I need to understand the place of sacrifice because it is a huge part of the Christian’s journey. God says He will bless the works of your hands; the hands need to work to qualify for the blessing. Read the rest of this entry

Hearken

1 Sam. 15:22 But Samuel replied, “What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.”

Please read Luke 17:11-19. Another noteworthy thing from this passage of scripture is the fact that Jews and Samaritans were together. That is not a very common scene. Read the rest of this entry
