Who Are You?

2 Kings 5: 2 “…Aramean raiders had invaded the land of Israel, and among their captives was a young girl who had been given to Naaman’s wife as a maid. One day the girl said to her mistress, “I wish my master would go to see the prophet… He would heal him of his leprosy.”

The world’s most pressing need after Jesus, is character. An anonymous quote says, “Character is who you are when no one is watching”. And I believe it is really apt.

Damaging Effects

1 Tim. 5:13 “They also learn to waste their time in going around from house to house; but even worse, they learn to be gossips and busybodies, talking of things they should not.”

Gossip is casual or unconstrained conversation about other people, typically involving details that are not confirmed and in many cases, lies. If you are in any position of authority, be aware that people will bring unsolicited gossip to you.

2 Peter 1:10 (TLB) “…work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen, and then you will never stumble or fall away.11 And God will open wide the gates of heaven for you to enter into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”

The statue of liberty is famous for many reasons, one of which is the detail the sculpture has. It will interest you to know that as the sculptor was making that piece, he never knew that anyone would be able to see the top of the statue of liberty. Read the rest of this entry

His Likeness

Col.3:22 “Obey your masters… not only when their eye is on you… but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord” [with emphasis].

Do you have to be supervised to excel? Excellent people require no supervision. Excellent people actually know that God is always watching them. So, they do what needs to be done even when no one is watching. Read the rest of this entry

Outstanding

Matt.5:16Let your light shinebefore men, that they may see your good deedsand praise your Father in heaven.” [with emphasis]

Excellence glorifies God and inspires people. When we deliver excellence at work, we bring glory to God, our Maker and King. But it does not end there. People look at us and get inspired because of the level of excellence displayed through our work. Then they become inspired to be professional like you and inspired to serve your God. Realization 101

Rom.12:18 (NIV)”If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” [with emphasis]

God does not want us to be difficult people in the lives of those we are doing life with. Some of us may have a propensity towards being demanding, or we are prone to being disagreeable, or being defensive, or prone to be demeaning. In that case, it is time to stop today and realign with Christ. Read the rest of this entry

Not As These

Rom.12:17-19 (MSG) “Don’t hit back; discover beauty in everyone. If you’ve got it in you, get along with everybody. Don’t insist on getting even; that’s not for you to do. “I’ll do the judging,” says God. “I’ll take care of it.”

In managing difficult people, you need to be aware of the five types you will come across.

#1. Demanding People are dictators and their goal is to run your life. They are very controlling, Read the rest of this entry

Classroom

Luke 16:10 “Whoever can be trusted with very little can be trusted with much…”

God wants us to work; work is God’s idea and work is a tool He uses to supply our needs. The third reason why God wants us to work is because work develops our character. God uses work as a testing ground for us. Read the rest of this entry

Vision

Ruth 1:16 “But Ruth replied, “Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.”

Our next lesson is from the life of Ruth. Ruth moved forward after she encountered God.  Scripture introduces Ruth as a single woman, though she had been married but was now widowed and single again. As if that was not enough, this same Ruth was in the company of bitterness. Imagine someone trusting God for a life partner or someone waiting on God for anything, hanging around bitter people. The company of bitterness has a way of amplifying an already bad situation. But God came through for her.
