Life Light

Jn.1:4 “The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.”

Dabar, God’s Word, gives life and that life brings light. It is not the other way around; we will like to have light first before we put life into a situation. But God puts His life and His life brings the light. In Gen.1, in the beginning the earth was without form and void, Read the rest of this entry

As You Go

Ex.35:2 (TLB) “Work six days only; the seventh day is a day of solemn rest, a holy day to be used to worship Jehovah; anyone working on that day must die.”

God wired leisure into creation. Gen.2:1-3 So the creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was completed. On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation.” Read the rest of this entry

Servant Leadership

Matt.14:22-23 “Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home. After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.”

Wait a minute, what exactly is going on here! Jesus was the leader, right? So, after teaching, should He not have been whisked away by secret service agents? Then the disciples would be the ones to stay back, Read the rest of this entry

Acts of Charity

Eph.2:8 (GW) “God saved you through faith as an act of kindness. You had nothing to do with it. Being saved is a gift from God. 9 It’s not the result of anything you’ve done, so no one can brag about it.”

That you are saved today is because someone had compassion on you. Someone saw you going to hell and decided to tell you about Christ and eternal life.

Stand!

Isa. 40:8 (NIV) “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”

We spend a lot of energy trying to avoid challenges but we actually should be thanking God for them. Challenges and adversity help us to develop endurance and endurance is a powerful weapon to have in your character arsenal. Read the rest of this entry

Restart

Eph.4:28 If you are a thief, quit stealing. Instead, use your hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need” [with emphasis].

What would you do if as a shop owner, one day someone just walks into your store and carts away every single product you are selling?

Dignified Work

Ex.20: 9 “You have six days each week for your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God. On that day, no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants…”

The fourth commandment is the longest commandment and it has two parts. The first part focuses on the dignity of work and the second part focuses on the blessings of rest. God starts off by saying, “You have six days each week for your work.”

Better Off

Eccl.4.9 Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. 10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.”

Yesterday, we established that the concept of “Work-Family Balance” is a myth. Instead, seek “Work-Family Integration” because with integration, equilibrium is attainable and balance is possible. When you have work family integration, your spouse stops competing with your work life and starts collaborating with you and with your work. Read the rest of this entry

Myth Buster

Eph.4:16 “He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.” [emphasis added]

The myth that a lot of us have is, we are trying to create a balance and it is often tagged “Work-Family Balance.” Are you familiar with this? Just like the graphical illustration, you have work life and family life putting pressure on both sides of the scale with a fulcrum at the middle. Read the rest of this entry

Because… II

1 John 3:1 (LB) “See how very much our Heavenly Father loves us, for He allows us to be called his children – think of it – and we really are!”

The Bible says in Eccl. 4:4 (GN) “I’ve learned why people work so hard to succeed; it’s because they envy the things their neighbours have” [with emphasis]. If you let the envy of the things that neighbours have become the fuel in the engine that drives your productivity, you will be, of all men, the most miserable. Read the rest of this entry
