In Obedience

Ex.23:22 “But if you are careful to obey him, following all my instructions, then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and I will oppose those who oppose you.”

John 9:7He told him, “Go wash yourself in the pool of Siloam” (Siloam means “sent”). So the man went and washed and came back seeing!” Note that this man could hear, he was blind, but he could hear. So, he heard Jesus spitting and he probably was wondering, what is this man doing? I hope He Read the rest of this entry

Posture

Rev.4:10-11 “the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: “You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honour and power…” (NKJV]

Twice in our study of John 8, we see crowds attempt to stone Jesus. In the first instance, the wisdom that Jesus spoke confounded them and they dropped the stones and left. This same Jesus says to us in Luke 21:14-15So don’t worry in advance about how to answer the charges against you, for I will give you the right words and such wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to reply or refute you!Read the rest of this entry

Not About People

John 7:3-5 “and Jesus’ brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea, where your followers can see your miracles! You can’t become famous if you hide like this! If you can do such wonderful things, show yourself to the world!” For even his brothers didn’t believe in him.”

We will start off today’s devotional with our final thought from yesterday. You will notice that in our study of the Book of John we will trail off our discourse from previous days because of the way John links every detail and every thought. Read the rest of this entry

The People, II

John 7:24 “Look beneath the surface so you can judge correctly.”

In John 7:1-27 [please read], we see seven categories of people. Yesterday, we listed the first three categories; The Clueless, The Puzzled, and The Rulers. The fourth category is The Temple Guards. The temple guards are the ones that carry out the mission of the rulers. Read the rest of this entry

Countercultural II

John 4:25-26 “The woman said, “I know the Messiah is coming—the one who is called Christ. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” Then Jesus told her, “I am the Messiah!” (emphasis added).

Did you know that in general at the time, men do not speak to their own wives in public? This was the cultural setting in place when Paul was talking to the Corinthian church. 1 Cor. 14:34-35 Women should be silent during the church meetings. It is not proper for them to speak. They should be submissive, just as the law says. If they have any questions, they should ask their husbands at home, for it is improper for women to speak in church meetings.” Paul made this statement when they wanted to put order in the disorder in the Corinthian church. When I read this I was like, why can’t she ask him in church? Read the rest of this entry

Eyes Right

John 2:16 (TPT] “And he shouted at the merchants, “Get these things out of here! Don’t you dare make my Father’s house into a center for merchandise!”

Sometimes people, even friends, come to me asking to be taught how to do certain things but when they find out that there is nothing, I do for God that I profit from, their interest dwindles very quickly. A friend once came asking to understand and learn how we put together the FreshFire devotionals. Read the rest of this entry

Not Your Ways

Ps.69:9 “Because zeal for Your house has eaten me up, and the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.”

Please read John 2:12-25, we see a direct fulfilment of today’s scripture reference. Let me give you some background; the population of Jerusalem is about two hundred and fifty thousand people. The law demands that at a feast like this, everyone in Jerusalem must come to Jerusalem to worship. Read the rest of this entry

The Path

John 2:11 “This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him.”

John 2:9-10When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over. “A host always serves the best wine first,” he said. “Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!” (NRSV, emphasis added). Every time people look at your life and say, “We thought we had seen your best, but this is even better!” Read the rest of this entry

In His Service

1 Cor.12:4-5 “There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all.  There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord.” (emphasis added).

It is so important for us to understand that spiritual gifts are for service, for the benefit of others. So, these spiritual gifts we have been given, we have received, and we have activated is not about you or me. Read the rest of this entry

For Love Sake

Rom. 5:8 (AMP) “But God clearly shows and proves His own love for us, by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

God wants you to be His friend. He is not interested in religion. God wants a relationship with you. Do you know why you are here right now and not six feet under? Do you know why you are not in other horrible places that you could possibly be in today? Read the rest of this entry
