Destiny Matters

2 Tim.3:16-17 “Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.” (MSG).

A man went to his doctor to complain, he was convinced that something was wrong. The doctor ran some tests and presented his findings to the man. The doctor told him that he needed to change something urgently. Read the rest of this entry

Two Sides

Eccl.10:17 “Happy is the land whose king is a noble leader and whose leaders feast at the proper time to gain strength for their work, not to get drunk.”

As long as what you run to is not God, that thing has become an idol. What is your barn? Yesterday, I shared two of my barns in the past – cereal and video games. Sadly, some people think that their ‘cereal’ is better than another person’s cigarette, Read the rest of this entry

Best vs. Easy; Habits III

Matt.20:28 “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

We are still looking at the habits of choosing what is best over what is easy. Habit number one; change I deserve to I am responsible. Habit number two; do the hard things first. Habit number three; keep inconvenient commitments. Read the rest of this entry

Check Up

Gal. 6:4-5Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else.  For we are each responsible for our own conduct.”

Entitlement robs us of our gratitude. Even in your relationship with your spouse, your children, your colleagues, any time you feel entitled to something, you need to stop and check because it will rob you of your gratitude. Read the rest of this entry

Cede Control

Job 11:13-18 Surrender your heart to God, turn to him in prayer. . . Then… you will be confident and fearless. Your troubles will go away… and your darkest night will be brighter than noon. Then you’ll rest safe and secure, filled with hope and emptied of worry!” (CEV, emphasis added)

Yesterday, we looked at the woman of Shunem and how the fear of disappointment would have stopped her from receiving God’s blessings for her. However, Elisha said to her, whether you believe it or not, whether you like it or not, you will have a boy next year. Read the rest of this entry

Outlook

John 20:9-10for until then they still hadn’t understood the Scriptures that said Jesus must rise from the dead. Then they went home.”

Today we start off by delving deeper into our final thought from yesterday. John 20:5 He stooped and looked in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he didn’t go in.” Even though John told us how he outran Peter and got to the tomb first, John got there and did not act until Peter got there. From Observation

1 Cor. 10:11 “The things that happened to those people are examples. They were written down to teach us, because we live in a time when all these things of the past have reached their goal.” (NCV)

If you look closely at John 20:1-2 and at how the whole thing panned out, you would realize that these people had no expectations. They came and saw the stone had been rolled away and they still did not think Jesus was resurrected. Instead, they thought someone had stolen His body. Read the rest of this entry

For Love

John 20:31 “But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.”

We are grateful to God for all that He has been teaching us though our study in the Book of John. It has been a totally life-changing journey. We are in the penultimate chapter and our study over the next few days is like the peak of the story. Read the rest of this entry

Your Heart

John 17:17&19 “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth …And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth.” (NRSV & NLT)

God can bring glory out of shame, however, shame itself does not glorify God. In fact, there would be no need for God to change shame to glory if shame glorifies God. So, shame is of no value to anybody. Apart from the glory confusion, there is also the ‘by God’s grace’ confusion. Read the rest of this entry

I AM!

John 15:8 “When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.”

You have to be fruitful! The mark of a true disciple in Jesus is fruitfulness. John 15:8 “When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.” (emphasis added). Not just glory, but great glory. Read the rest of this entry
