Outlook
John 20:9-10 “for until then they still hadn’t understood the Scriptures that said Jesus must rise from the dead. Then they went home.”
Today we start off by delving deeper into our final thought from yesterday. John 20:5 “He stooped and looked in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he didn’t go in.” Even though John told us how he outran Peter and got to the tomb first, John got there and did not act until Peter got there. From Observation
1 Cor. 10:11 “The things that happened to those people are examples. They were written down to teach us, because we live in a time when all these things of the past have reached their goal.” (NCV)
If you look closely at John 20:1-2 and at how the whole thing panned out, you would realize that these people had no expectations. They came and saw the stone had been rolled away and they still did not think Jesus was resurrected. Instead, they thought someone had stolen His body. Read the rest of this entry
For Love
John 20:31 “But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.”
We are grateful to God for all that He has been teaching us though our study in the Book of John. It has been a totally life-changing journey. We are in the penultimate chapter and our study over the next few days is like the peak of the story. Read the rest of this entry
This Too
John 19:19,21-22 “And Pilate posted a sign on the cross that read, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.” …Then the leading priests objected and said to Pilate, “Change it from ‘The King of the Jews’ to ‘He said, I am King of the Jews.’” Pilate replied, “No, what I have written, I have written.”
John 19:38-39 “Afterward Joseph of Arimathea, who had been a secret disciple of Jesus (because he feared the Jewish leaders), asked Pilate for permission to take down Jesus’ body. When Pilate gave permission, Joseph came and took the body away. With him came Nicodemus, the man who had come to Jesus at night. He brought about seventy-five pounds of perfumed ointment made from myrrh and aloes.” Read the rest of this entry
Trustworthy
John 19:24 “So they said, “Rather than tearing it apart, let’s throw dice for it.” This fulfilled the Scripture that says, “They divided my garments among themselves and threw dice for my clothing.”
John 19:23 “When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they divided his clothes among the four of them. They also took his robe, but it was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.” (emphasis added). Jesus was dressing well, stop dressing shabbily in the Name of Jesus. The Jew?
John 19:14 “It was now about noon on the day of preparation for the Passover. And Pilate said to the people, “Look, here is your king!”
Today’s scripture reference is another prophetic occurrence. Jesus Himself was the Passover Lamb and they crucified [sacrificed] Him on the Friday before the sabbath of the Passover week. Hugely prophetic. Read the rest of this entry
Peace of Rome?
John 14:27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
The Roman kingdom under Caesar claimed that they were fair, and they were for peace. They even had the edict called “Pax Romana” which means “the Peace of Rome” and it is supposed to be built on justice. But the hypocrisy of the Roman system is exposed in Read the rest of this entry

Isa.53:5 “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”
John 19:1 “Then Pilate had Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip.” The whip used here is known as flagrum. It is no ordinary whip; it is a collection of heavy leather straps into which bone, glass, and led balls were embedded. Read the rest of this entry
The Embodiment
John 19:36 “These things happened in fulfilment of the Scriptures…”
If you were to commit your most treasured person to someone who would that person be? Our focus over the next few days is on John 19 and in this story, Jesus committed His mother to John. Who is your most precious person – is it your parent, or your child or children, or your spouse? Read the rest of this entry
