Look Up

John 17:1 “After saying all these things, Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you.” (emphasis added).

Our first lesson from Jesus’ prayer in John 17 starts in the very first verse and it is the posture Jesus took. When Jesus prayed, Jesus faced God. However, as children of God, we have the privilege of lifting our eyes to God and bowing our knees to Him in reverence. Read the rest of this entry

Face Up

John.17:1 “After saying all these things, Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father…” (emphasis added).

When Jesus wants to talk to God, Jesus faces Him. When you want to talk to God, face Him. And because God is on His throne in heaven, that means to face up. Like we said yesterday, you may not do this all the time. However, the posture of your heart is more important, and it mostly will reflect on the Read the rest of this entry

His Might!

John 16:24You haven’t done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.”

Today’s anchor scripture shows us clearly that the new privilege of asking the Father in the Name of Jesus and receiving answers is tied to our joy. This belief of, if you pray, you do not need to get any answers. just love Jesus, He does not need to answer your prayers. Read the rest of this entry

The Privilege

John 16:23 “At that time you won’t need to ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, and he will grant your request because you use my name.” (emphasis added).

Jesus changes gear here and introduces us to another privilege of Him going away. Jesus says you and I can go straight to the Father in His Name just as He does. Just as the disciples saw Him do the tomb of Lazarus in John 11 and as they will still see Him do in John 17. Read the rest of this entry

Do You Know?

John 16:16&18 “In a little while you won’t see me anymore. But a little while after that, you will see me again.” “And what does he mean by ‘a little while’? We don’t understand.”

Yesterday, we said that when God says to us, ‘in a little while’, it does not really help us because we are wondering what He means. For some of us like in the case of the disciples, that little while is just a few hours to go. Yet in a little while for some of us, it is just three more days, and what we have been Read the rest of this entry

Priority One

John 16:13-14 “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me.”

Today, we will pick up from our final thought from yesterday which is that Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit will tell us things that are not in any book. The Holy Spirit will give us directions that are not written anywhere. There are things that God wants to teach you by Himself. Read the rest of this entry

To Know

John 16:8-11 “And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.” (NKJV]

As they stood there, at the cross jeering and laughing at Jesus, the Jews could never have imagined three things. Firstly, that the atonement of the world’s sin, including their own, was on Jesus. Like we said yesterday, Jesus took care of all our sins on the cross – past, present, and future. Read the rest of this entry

What Will It Be?

John 11:20 & 32 “When Martha got word that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him. But Mary stayed in the house.” … “When Mary arrived and saw Jesus, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.”

Martha and Mary are both Christians but with two very different personalities. Both interacted with Jesus differently and both got different responses from Him, even though Jesus loved them both. When we contrast Martha’s response to Mary’s response from today’s scripture reference, Read the rest of this entry

Engrave It

John 10:28-29 “And I give them eternal life, and they will never, ever [by any means] perish; and no one will ever snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater and mightier than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.” (AMP]

John 10:24-26So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.” Jesus answered, “I have told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name testify to me; but you do not believe, because you do not belong to my sheep. Read the rest of this entry

Voice Gate

John 10:11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.”

Even as He lies down to be the door, so He lays down His life for the sheep. Every night the shepherd lies down and becomes a living gate, he knows that he may never see the next day. But he would rather die protecting his sheep than have a wolf come in. Read the rest of this entry
