On Call
John 1:29 “The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him and declared, “Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (NRSV).
Please read John 1:29-34 (NRSV). John the Baptist says, “He that sent me told me what to look out for” [paraphrased] and this is the first thing that jumps out at us. Meaning that John the Baptist was not just some eccentric man who went about baptizing people with water. Read the rest of this entry
Be Well-versed
1 Cor.12:4-5 “There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord.” (emphasis added).
Over the next few days, we will be examining an aspect of the Holy Spirit that is so fundamental and pivotal to our faith. It is also an aspect that perhaps a lot of Christians really do not understand. However, to be all that God had called us to be as Christians, we need to understand the aspect of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. It is fundamental to our faith. Read the rest of this entry
Advantage IV
2 Cor.1:22 “and he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first instalment that guarantees everything he has promised us.”
The first thing that you need to do to develop your relationship with the Holy Spirit is, you need to hunger for Him. You need to thirst for Him. If you are not thirsty, you cannot drink the water He is pouring out. You can taste the water, but you cannot really drink the water. Read the rest of this entry
The Better Life
John 4:14 (TLB) “But the water I give them,” he said, “becomes a perpetual spring within them, watering them forever with eternal life.”
In yesterday’s devotional, we established that everyone wants to have “the good life” and the good life means different things to different people. However, in the pursuit of the good life, we experience exhaustion; we are tired because it is draining. Read the rest of this entry
Shepherd vs. Cowboy
Ps.26:3 “Your constant love is my guide and your faithfulness always leads me.” (TEV, emphasis added)
Who is your shepherd? I hope that by now you can say Only Jesus! A lot of us know people or are people that travel. When we travel to new places, sometimes we go around the city just to appreciate the sights. Read the rest of this entry
Guided?
1 Tim. 3:15 (NIV) “if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.”
The gifts of the Holy Spirit are to be used with diligence, cheerfulness, and faithfulness. Please read Rom.12:6-8; 1 Pet.4:10 -11. Spiritual gifts are to be used in an orderly and fitting way. Read the rest of this entry
Divine Guidance
Isa.30:21 “Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.”
As children of God, we have the privilege of divine guidance, the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Since we have this privilege, we ought to make use of it. The Holy Spirit can speak to you and guide you on decisions you intend to make. Hear what God has to say before you decide. However, we should not sit-down expecting thunder to strike before we make decisions. Read the rest of this entry
Seek Him
1 Sam.30:8 “Then David asked the Lord, “Should I chase after this band of raiders? Will I catch them?” And the Lord told him, “Yes, go after them. You will surely recover everything that was taken from you!”
The Church must of necessity depend on God’s voice. Seek to know His heart, to hear His voice and know His direction. This is how we operate in God’s Favourite House. Read the rest of this entry
