At Midnight
Ex. 12:29 “And that night at midnight, the Lord struck down all the firstborn sons in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sat on his throne, to the firstborn son of the prisoner in the dungeon. Even the firstborn of their livestock were killed.”
Our first lesson from Elijah regarding opening heavens is the willingness to do what is required, irrespective of the excuses not to. Our second lesson is Elijah’s power came from God in response to Elijah’s prayer. Our third lesson is everything that is visible and physical, Read the rest of this entry
Call & Response
Isaiah 62:6-7 “I’ve posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem. Day and night they keep at it, praying, calling out, reminding God to remember. They are to give him no peace until he does what he said, until he makes Jerusalem famous as the City of Praise.” (MSG)
Our first lesson from Elijah regarding opening up heavens is the willingness to do what is required, irrespective of the excuses not to. Our second lesson is Elijah’s power came from God in response to Elijah’s prayer. Yes, you need to pray earnestly and do what is required. Read the rest of this entry
Ready. Set. Pray.
1 Kings 18:36-37 “…Elijah …prayed, “O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, prove today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant. Prove that I have done all this at your command. O Lord, answer me! …so these people will know that you, O Lord, are God…”
Elijah’s first prayer was not recorded, it was only the second prayer that was recorded. But James 5 tells us how he prayed the first prayer and 1Kings 18 showed us how he prayed the second prayer. So, if you combine the two, we can see how he prayed both prayers. Read the rest of this entry
Passionate Plea
Psalm 103:7 “He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel.” (KJV)
The Voice Translation of the same scripture reads, “He showed Moses His ways; He allowed His people Israel to see His wonders and acts of power.” The children of Israel just saw God’s acts and saw the miracles, but they did not know how it came. Read the rest of this entry
The Source
1 Kings 18:43 “Then he said to his servant, “Go and look out toward the sea.” The servant went and looked, then returned to Elijah and said, “I didn’t see anything.” Seven times Elijah told him to go and look.”
Even though Elijah had heard the sound of the abundance of rain, he still went to pray. Why? Prayer is what connects heaven to earth. Elijah put his head between his knees and began to pray. After a while, he sent his servant to go and check, but he saw nothing. Read the rest of this entry
The Connect
1 Kings 18:42 “So Ahab went to eat and drink. But Elijah climbed to the top of Mount Carmel and bowed low to the ground and prayed with his face between his knees.”
In the Words of Ricky Dillard’s song Release, ‘The heavens are open, His Spirit is flowing. Whatever you need, whatever you need.’ By God’s grace, we are in a season of Open Heavens; I am confident that certain people who have been operating under sealed heavens, Read the rest of this entry
Sing. Pray. Tell.
Isa.12:4 “Thank the Lord and praise his name! Tell the world about his wonderful love!”(LB, emphasis added).
Ps.147:7 “Sing out your thanks to him; sing praises to our God.” (LB, emphasis added). We are to sing out our thanks to God. You cannot be singing, ‘God, You are the greatest! You are the mightiest! with your hands folded across your chest. You can insist that you are singing but what does your body language communicate? Read the rest of this entry
In Prayer
1 Kings 17:1 “Now Elijah, who was from Tishbe in Gilead, told King Ahab, “As surely as the Lord, the God of Israel, lives—the God I serve—there will be no dew or rain during the next few years until I give the word!”
Jesus is not just pleading for mercy when it comes to us, Jesus is pleading for justice. It is unjust to punish the same sin twice; Jesus already received the full punishment for our sin on the cross of cavalry. Jesus is saying to God, ‘You have to be just with them; look at Me I died for them. Read the rest of this entry
Cold or Hot?
Rev.3:15-16 “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!”
As we approach the end of the year, I am usually pulled in two directions emotionally. On one hand, I am really excited about what God has done already, all the jaw-dropping testimonies, things that only God’s favour can secure. Read the rest of this entry
Set Time
Ps.119:126 “Lord, it is time for you to act, for these evil people have violated your instructions.” (emphasis added)
Today, we will go back to our final thought from yesterday that flowed from Ps.105:44 “When the time was right, He gave them land from other nations and they took possession of the wealth of the peoples” (The Voice, NRSV, emphasis added). Read the rest of this entry
