The Privilege
John 16:23 “At that time you won’t need to ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, and he will grant your request because you use my name.” (emphasis added).
Jesus changes gear here and introduces us to another privilege of Him going away. Jesus says you and I can go straight to the Father in His Name just as He does. Just as the disciples saw Him do the tomb of Lazarus in John 11 and as they will still see Him do in John 17. Read the rest of this entry
Under Cover
John 8:59 “At that point they picked up stones to throw at him. But Jesus was hidden from them and left the Temple.” (emphasis added).
The stones they picked up were the same stones that the Pharisees and the leaders had dropped because the stones were for Jesus all along. Though this crowd did not join the Pharisees and the leaders at that point, they just stood and watched the exchanges. Read the rest of this entry
The Verdict
Rom.8:1 “So now the case is closed. There remains no accusing voice of condemnation against those who are joined in life-union with Jesus, the Anointed One.” (TPT]
John 8:10-11 “Jesus straightened up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, sir.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go your way, and from now on do not sin again.” (NRSV, emphasis added). Read the rest of this entry
Defender
John 8:7-8 “They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust.”
Maybe when Jesus stooped down the second time, He was writing what would happen next. ‘They will drop their stones and run away.’ The Bible says in Prov.20:9 “Who can say, “I have cleansed my heart; I am pure and free from sin”? Jesus knew this and He said to them, Read the rest of this entry
The Way
John 8:4-6 “Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the act of adultery. The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?” They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger.”
When Pharisees and teachers of religious law call you, ‘Teacher’, you know you are in trouble. The truth is, they never acknowledged Jesus as a teacher in the first place. We concluded yesterday’s devotional saying that even though these men brought a woman caught in adultery to Jesus, the stones Read the rest of this entry
His Image
Gen.1:26-27 “Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign… So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” (emphasis added).
Jesus says in John 8:28 “…. I do nothing on my own but say only what the Father taught me.” Jesus is the express image of the invisible God. Guess what? We are also created in His image. I want you to do an exercise today, stand in front of the mirror and lift up your right hand. Read the rest of this entry
Expressed
Gal. 5:22-23 “The Holy Spirit produces a different kind of fruit: unconditional love, joy, peace, patience, kind-heartedness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. You won’t find any law opposed to fruit like this.” (Voice]
We are going to run through the components of the fruit of the Holy Spirit and the first one Paul mentions is Love. This is unconditional love; it is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. The love Paul is referring to in today’s scripture reference is “Agape” – unconditional. It is only the Holy Spirit that can make you love someone unconditionally. Read the rest of this entry
Done! Finished!
Matt.27:46 “At about three o’clock, Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”
Jesus became sin so that we can become the righteousness of God. Jesus became sin so that we can be forgiven. Jesus was forsaken so that we can be accepted. Jesus was rejected so that we can be accepted. Every time you stand before God and something tells you that you are rejected, point it to the cross. Read the rest of this entry
