Son of Man

John 11:51-52 “He did not say this on his own; as high priest at that time he was led to prophesy that Jesus would die for the entire nation. And not only for that nation, but to bring together and unite all the children of God scattered around the world.”

John 11:44And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.” [KJV]. Jesus had already brought Lazarus back to life, but He chose not to do the remaining work for them. Read the rest of this entry

What Will It Be?

John 11:20 & 32 “When Martha got word that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him. But Mary stayed in the house.” … “When Mary arrived and saw Jesus, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.”

Martha and Mary are both Christians but with two very different personalities. Both interacted with Jesus differently and both got different responses from Him, even though Jesus loved them both. When we contrast Martha’s response to Mary’s response from today’s scripture reference, Read the rest of this entry

God’s Gift

John 11:4 “But when Jesus heard about it he said, “Lazarus’s sickness will not end in death. No, it happened for the glory of God so that the Son of God will receive glory from this.” (emphasis added)

Jesus’ statement is very profound. If you are a child of God, you can safely conclude that what you are going through will not end in death. What you are going through will end in God’s glory. Am I saying that people will not die? Of course not. Read the rest of this entry

The Plot

John 11:25-26 “Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”

We are more than halfway through our study of the Book of John. God’s Words by itself is life and it is so beautiful to see how Jesus responds to things. God’s Word is so refreshing, and I am confident that even as our minds are being renewed, our lives are being transformed. Amen! We are in an era where Read the rest of this entry

By The Ear

Isa.30:21 “Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.”

In John 20:11-18 [please read], Mary went to the tomb where Jesus had been buried but had now resurrected. Outside the tomb, She saw a man who she mistook for a gardener. Even though it was Jesus standing there, she did not recognize Him. He asked her, ‘Who are you looking for, young lady?’ Read the rest of this entry

Under Cover

John 8:59 At that point they picked up stones to throw at him. But Jesus was hidden from them and left the Temple.” (emphasis added).

The stones they picked up were the same stones that the Pharisees and the leaders had dropped because the stones were for Jesus all along. Though this crowd did not join the Pharisees and the leaders at that point, they just stood and watched the exchanges. Read the rest of this entry

Defender

John 8:7-8 “They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust.”

Maybe when Jesus stooped down the second time, He was writing what would happen next. ‘They will drop their stones and run away.’ The Bible says in Prov.20:9 Who can say, “I have cleansed my heart; I am pure and free from sin”? Jesus knew this and He said to them, Read the rest of this entry

His Image

Gen.1:26-27 Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign… So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” (emphasis added).

Jesus says in John 8:28 “…. I do nothing on my own but say only what the Father taught me.” Jesus is the express image of the invisible God. Guess what? We are also created in His image. I want you to do an exercise today, stand in front of the mirror and lift up your right hand. Read the rest of this entry

Reflections

John 8:28 “So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man on the cross, then you will understand that I am he. I do nothing on my own but say only what the Father taught me.”

Jesus said, ‘you are going to see the Son of Man lifted up’ and everyone in Israel knows that phrase to mean crucifixion. Jesus was saying, ‘you are going to see me crucified, and then you will know that I am who I have said I am.’ Read the rest of this entry

The Climax & The Christ

John 7:37-38 “On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’”

What do you think the high priests were thinking? ‘We should come to You?’ Some people in the crowds were probably thinking, ‘You from Galilee? There is no single prophet from Galilee! And You are saying we should come to You and You will give us living waters?’ Read the rest of this entry
