Doting

Acts 2:2-5 “Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit… “

We sometimes mistake the symbols of the Holy Spirit for the Person of the Holy Spirit. The symbols are important because they show us the characteristics of the Holy Spirit. Fire is a symbol of the Holy Spirit, but the Holy Spirit is not fire. As a symbol, fire characterizes His cleansing, consuming, purifying, illuminating nature. But the Holy Spirit is not fire. In Us & With Us

John 16:7 “But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you.”

The Amplified Bible Translation of today’s scripture reference reads, “But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him (the Holy Spirit) to you [to be in close fellowship with you]. Resurrection

John 12: 24 “I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives.”

We will kick off today’s devotional with our final thought from yesterday. Mary, Martha, and Lazarus were Jesus’ friends. Unfortunately, Lazarus became sick and eventually died. Mary and Martha had sent a message to Jesus, but Jesus did not get there until Lazarus had passed on. Read the rest of this entry

Cherished

John 14:19 “In just a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you’re going to see Me because I am alive and you’re about to come alive!” (MSG, emphasis added)

Please read Mark 15:21-41. The night before Jesus was crucified, He made a very strange statement; strange considering the context He was in. The disciples were expecting the Messiah as a conquering king that will come and physically liberate the nation of Israel. Read the rest of this entry

Uncommon

Psalm 139:14 (VOICE) “I will offer You my grateful heart, for I am Your unique creation, filled with wonder and awe. You have approached even the smallest details with excellence; Your works are wonderful; I carry this knowledge deep within my soul.”

I discovered very early in life that life is not a straight line. I also discovered that life is an inconsistent rhythm. I play music; the first thing every musician wants to do is to establish the rhythm or connect to the existing rhythm regardless of the instrument. As you live, Read the rest of this entry

Uncommon Life

John 15:15 “I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me.”

Please read Genesis 18:17-33; this is God physically visiting the earth with angels and He went to visit Abraham. Did you know that God still physically visits the earth? Read the rest of this entry

Fuel Up

Luke 2:37 “Then she lived as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the Temple but stayed there day and night, worshiping God with fasting and prayer.”

Can you think of the time when you saw that prayer made a definite difference? What are your experiences with fasting with prayer? What difference does fasting make to prayer, Read the rest of this entry

Stay Focused!

James 3:12-13 “Does a fig tree produce olives, or a grapevine produce figs? No, and you can’t draw fresh water from a salty spring. If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honourable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.

Have you noticed that when you start fasting, it seems like everyone everywhere you go is feasting? Sometimes, we are tempted to tell the people we do life with that we are fasting, Read the rest of this entry

Childlike

Mark 10:14 “…Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. 15 I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.” [with emphasis].

When God looks at you and calls you champion, it is not wishful thinking or motivational speaking. God is not just trying to make you feel good and He is not just trying to pep you up. Read the rest of this entry

Make Ready

Luke 8:43 “A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding, and she could find no cure. 44 Coming up behind Jesus, she touched the fringe of his robe. Immediately, the bleeding stopped.”

John 9:6 “Then he spit on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and spread the mud over the blind man’s eyes. 7 He told him, “Go wash yourself in the pool of Siloam” (Siloam means “sent”). So the man went and washed and came back seeing!” Read the rest of this entry
