For Your Good

Ps.139:3You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.”

God has given you this commandment so that it will be well with you and with your children. It is love to teach this commandment to your children, because it will do them good. The reality is that we are not doing our parents a favour by honouring them.

Lead-A-Sheep!

Prov. 22:6 (MSG) “Point your kids in the right direction—when they’re old they won’t be lost.”

Your first experience of a person of authority shapes your reaction to other authorities. Our parents are the first authority figures in our lives. Our experiences with our parents shape our experiences with God and with authority to a very large extent.

Begins At Home

John 14:15 “If you love me, obey my commandments.”

The deepest question every Christian will have to answer is “me or Jesus?” Is it going to be my way or is it going to be His ways? Is it going to be my idea or is it going to be His ideas? The Ten Commandments is a blow out of the struggle between “me or Jesus?”

Gift Rest

Matt.11:28 “Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

Helping another person find rest actually gives glory to God. There are people around you that need rest; locate them and take practical steps to help them find rest. Single parenting in my opinion is one of the toughest jobs on earth.

Find Rest

Ex.20: 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested.”

Find time to rest! This is not a suggestion, it is an instruction. Rest is not the exclusive preserve for a privileged few. If you are a student, resting would mean taking a break from studying and just playing.

Time Off

Ex.34:21 (VOICE) “ You are to work for six days; but when the seventh day arrives, you are to observe the Sabbath and rest. Even when it is the time to plough and harvest, you must still rest on the seventh day.”

The story most times is, a lot of people feel burdened with what they have to do tomorrow. The burden for tomorrow’s work is often more than the pleasure we find in what God has already enabled us to do today. Just calm down.

Break Time!

PS.121:3 (KJV) “…He that keepeth thee will not slumber. 4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel neither slumber nor sleep.”

Why would a God that never gets tired take a break? God is limitless. God could actually have completed all of creation’s work in a day but He did not. God is showing us that we do not have to do everything in one day.

Dignified Work

Ex.20: 9 “You have six days each week for your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God. On that day, no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants…”

The fourth commandment is the longest commandment and it has two parts. The first part focuses on the dignity of work and the second part focuses on the blessings of rest. God starts off by saying, “You have six days each week for your work.”

Resting?

Ex.20: 8 “Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 You have six days each week for your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God…”

Traditionally, the Sabbath day falls on a Saturday. This is the reason the Jews still go to the synagogue on Saturday. But the early church moved their day of worship to Sunday in honour of Christ’s resurrection and the headship of Jesus.

Chabod

Rom.10:13 “For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

God wants those of us who bear His Name to be responsible for the integrity of His Name and that is an awesome privilege.
