Heb.4:12 “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”
John connects John 1:1 with Genesis 1:1 in a beautiful way. The Book of Genesis in Hebrew text is called Bereshit and it means “in the beginning”. Meaning the entire Book of Genesis is called the beginning. Jn.1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (NRSV, emphasis added). Gen.1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (emphasis added). Read the rest of this entry
Reason Enough
Ps.106:1 “Hallelujah! Thank you, Lord! How good you are! Your love for us continues on forever.” (TLB)
We start today’s devotional with our final thoughts from yesterday which is, why should you and I live a life of thanksgiving to God? You and I should live a life of thanksgiving to God because of who He is and because of what He has done. Read the rest of this entry
Character & Charisma
1 Cor. 13:2 “What if I could prophesy and understand all secrets and all knowledge? And what if I had faith that moved mountains? I would be nothing, unless I loved others.”(CEV)
It is so amazing that the Holy Spirit is so involved. Sadly, sometimes we just run off without engaging Him. If we do not engage the Holy Spirit, we cannot get the best that God has to offer. The quality of our lives here on earth as believers, is directly proportional to our relationship with the Holy Spirit, to how much of Him we allow in our lives, to how open we are to Him, to how open we are to His leading, to His direction, to His guidance. 1Cor.12:31 “But earnestly desire and zealously cultivate the greatest and best gifts and graces (the higher gifts and the choicest graces) …” (AMPC)
1 Cor. 12:9-10 “to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.” (NKJV). The third gift is the gift of Faith. There are three types of faith in the scriptures. There is a saving faith. There is the fruit of faith. And there is the gift of faith. 1Cor.12:31 “But earnestly desire and zealously cultivate the greatest and best gifts and graces (the higher gifts and the choicest graces) …” (AMPC)
Yesterday, we looked at the gifts of the Word of Wisdom and the Word of Knowledge enumerated in 1Cor.12:8. I cannot count the number of times or the number of people that have walked into my office wondering how I knew certain things, secret things. “If not that my wife and I discussed this on our way to church and we came in the same car. In Us & With Us
John 16:7 “But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you.”
The Amplified Bible Translation of today’s scripture reference reads, “But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him (the Holy Spirit) to you [to be in close fellowship with you]. Jesus Alone
Jude 1:24 “Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault.” (emphasis added).
This was the scripture God gave me after I had given my life to Jesus. I can never forget. Though I had surrendered my life to Christ, I did not know how living for Him would be possible because I knew the type of life I was living. Read the rest of this entry
His Love
Ps. 119:67-68 “I used to wander off until you disciplined me; but now I closely follow your word. You are good and do only good; teach me your decrees.” (emphasis added).
We [human parents] do not discipline. We do more than discipline, we punish. What is the difference? Remember my story from yesterday? That moment when I see my grandmother and immediately, I wish I was lost again. Read the rest of this entry
One & Only
Ez. 34:11-12 “For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will search and find my sheep. I will be like a shepherd looking for his scattered flock. I will find my sheep and rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on that dark and cloudy day.
Yesterday, I said that it is how Jesus treats His sheep that made me determine that ONLY Jesus will be my Shepherd. The question is, how does Jesus treat His sheep? When I am hurt, how does Jesus respond? Like sheep, you and I are going to get hurt in this world. Read the rest of this entry
Unmerited Beauty
Rom. 8:32-33 (GW) “God didn’t spare his own Son but handed him over to death for all of us. So he will also give us everything along with him. Who will accuse those whom God has chosen? God has approved of them.”
God wants to take away the ashes in your life, He wants to take away the ashes that you are addicted to and give you His beauty. Will you give it to Him? Some people are holding on to ashes because of addiction and some are holding on to ashes because of logic. Read the rest of this entry
