Dear Woman
John 20:14 “She turned to leave and saw someone standing there. It was Jesus, but she didn’t recognize him.”
The only thing that could satisfy the thirst Mary had was Jesus. Like we said yesterday, Mary was not impressed with the linen wrappings, or with the head covering that was majestically arranged, and she was not even impressed with the angels. Read the rest of this entry
From Observation
1 Cor. 10:11 “The things that happened to those people are examples. They were written down to teach us, because we live in a time when all these things of the past have reached their goal.” (NCV)
If you look closely at John 20:1-2 and at how the whole thing panned out, you would realize that these people had no expectations. They came and saw the stone had been rolled away and they still did not think Jesus was resurrected. Instead, they thought someone had stolen His body. Read the rest of this entry
His Comfort
John 16:33 “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (NKJV]
John 16:2 “For you will be expelled from the synagogues, and the time is coming when those who kill you will think they are doing a holy service for God.” So, what is it about being expelled from the synagogue and why does it have such a stronghold on the Jews? For us, when we think about it is like someone being expelled or excommunicated from church. Read the rest of this entry
The I AM
John 11:25-26 “Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”
Resurrection and Life is not an event or a time. Resurrection and Life is a person. Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life, not a theological expression anymore but a living breathing human being. Jesus stood there and Martha was pointing to a future event and Jesus said, ‘I am Alpha and Omega, Read the rest of this entry
His Person
Rom.10:9 “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (NKJV].
John 11:22-23 “But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask.” Jesus told her, “Your brother will rise again.” And Jesus said, your brother will rise again, to which Martha responded, ‘yes I know, in the resurrection morning.’ Jesus says, ‘I am telling you that your brother will live again.’ Read the rest of this entry
God’s Gift
John 11:4 “But when Jesus heard about it he said, “Lazarus’s sickness will not end in death. No, it happened for the glory of God so that the Son of God will receive glory from this.” (emphasis added)
Jesus’ statement is very profound. If you are a child of God, you can safely conclude that what you are going through will not end in death. What you are going through will end in God’s glory. Am I saying that people will not die? Of course not. Read the rest of this entry
By The Ear
Isa.30:21 “Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.”
In John 20:11-18 [please read], Mary went to the tomb where Jesus had been buried but had now resurrected. Outside the tomb, She saw a man who she mistook for a gardener. Even though it was Jesus standing there, she did not recognize Him. He asked her, ‘Who are you looking for, young lady?’ Read the rest of this entry
In Obedience
Ex.23:22 “But if you are careful to obey him, following all my instructions, then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and I will oppose those who oppose you.”
John 9:7 “He told him, “Go wash yourself in the pool of Siloam” (Siloam means “sent”). So the man went and washed and came back seeing!” Note that this man could hear, he was blind, but he could hear. So, he heard Jesus spitting and he probably was wondering, what is this man doing? I hope He Read the rest of this entry
His Doing
Ps. 118:23 “This is from the Lord and is His doing; It is marvellous in our eyes.” (AMP].
John 9:2 “His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” (NRSV]. Their question was not, is there a sin in this equation? They did not ask if it was as a result of sin, they asked whose sin it was. Read the rest of this entry
The Charge
1 Peter 2:16 “For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil.”
John 8:33 “But we are descendants of Abraham,” they said. “We have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean, ‘You will be set free’?” Never been slaves, really? What about the four hundred and thirty years [430 years] in Egypt? If it was for ten years, then they can forget after some generations. Read the rest of this entry
